It depends on where you live. Each state is different. Heck, if I lived one county over, I wouldn't even get checked.

yeah some places in CA don't have to smog at all... I seem to never live near any of those areas

I think it is based off of population in the area??

its based on population and location. a lot of cities on the coast that are near openings to vallies get it hard because all the smog rolls into the valley with the wind coming in from the ocean. then it's just stuck in the valley until it rains or something. the more remote places don't have to worry as much.

In Ohio, it's based on pollution. The 11 counties with the worst pollution get tested. The other 75 counties don't.

in california, if the kit will pass, just find a place that will turn their head the other way as far as visual inspection. just an idea

there aren't many... most want a nice tip(100+) in order to turn their head. That's up front and no matter what the results are. It is the trully one of the top ten reasons cali sucks to live in. To bad there is about 1 million positives.
