RRM Non-Intercooled Turbo Boosting too high?

Well a friend of mine bought a brand new non-ic kit from RRM (after my recommendations), and it took us about 11hrs to install the kit. Install was a breeze and the thing fit like a glove. Everything is tight and no noticable leaks are found. After taking it for some test drives and some pulls are boost gauge is reading 12psi! From what RRM tells us the kit is setup for 9psi from the get go, so is it our gauge that is off or is the kit really pushing 12psi? He doesn't have a boost controller, but if he needs to get one that can be the option. By the way the gauge is an Autometer I know their not the most accurate gauges on the market. Any help guys? I tried searching for boost pressures and no luck. The search feature needs BIG improvement still on this site.

true the search does need alot of touching up.

on topic id have to say that the engine would have went boom if it really was 12 psi. also it might be hard to do this but not really. since you had an evo at one point try to guess how much hp he has, if he really is boosting 12 psi he should be around 220whp on the t-25. so if it feels like he is that quick then your 12 psi might be true. but if you cant keep up with a stock VW gti then your at the normal psi. btw im sure a stock gti vs stage 0 t-25 lancer would be a very close race.

buy a boost controller or take it to a shop of something.

check make sure you are taking the manifold pressure from the right place, i had it wrong when i first put my kit in and my (autometer) gauge claimed i was running 15+psi, if you had a leak you would be running lower boost like 4psi not more, and see if you can borrow another gauge from somebody and test to see if it is the gauge, i know my autometer gauge is off by like 3 psi, i have a profec b boost controller which displays the correct boost so im not too worried about it, if he has no boost controller hooked up then he should be at 9psi as set by the wastegate, thats all i got hope it helps

If he's non intercooled he shouldn't run any more than 5 psi. Get a boost controller, a guage, and re-check your stuff. Tell him not to boost at all until then.

^^^Yeah, no intercooler... No way he's getting up there right now. Gauge is bad or installed in wrong location. What is the wastegate set at anyways? Get that BC quickly!

Regarding Boost controller

Hello,
First off I'm new to this forum but been boosting cars for a while now, and no a boost controller will not work to "lower" your already too high boost! You can only raise the amount of set boost. Say your wastegate is to open or relive at 4 PSI well than you can only prevent it from opening at this set PSI by venting some manifold pressure "IE tricking it into believing its not seeing 4 PSI " So what you really need to do is 1 get a reliable boost gauge, 2 check boost again and if indeed your wastegate is not opening until 12 PSI than check your vac lines and your wastegate setup pronto! Or internal damage will insue...Thats just my 0.2 cents...Good luck with your setup

Sam is retarded. haha just kidding man....

Rock, we really think it is the spring, but we'll be taking pictures now at lunch and send them your way. Tonight we'll be able to take off the wastegate and find out for sure, we'll also be inspecting the hose from the wastegate to the turbo, but just looking at it we don't think it was damaged, but we'll double check.

Well just to inform everyone that our spring was the correct spring. Out autometer gauge was reading about 6psi off. Piece of crap. Anyways we bought a new gauge, though it is still off by about 1psi, it is better then the autometer crap we bought from lancershop.

Sam and I want to again thanks RRM for all their help through this stressful process these past few days. I was impressed that Rob called Sam himself after work hours and kept in contact through out the night. It really shows how dedicated these guys are to their job and the effort they put in to give a good quality product that performs well. Thanks again RRM!

Glad that the gauge was it. Good thing is, it really is fast and I don't mind helping out to resolve it or make sure everything is fine! Have fun guys.
