Some Expert Opinions

Ok lads, you should all know me pretty well by now, and know what i have in mind for my car and what my budget is.
I'm beginning to start seriously saving for work on my car, i figure if i start now i will be in the habit of doing it before the wedding n such.

So here is the turbo kit I'm looking to get at the end of this year
http://www.turbospecialties-race.com...hi/ml25B1e.asp

It is the TSI kit and I'm gonna buy it from this site: http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...itsubishi.html
it's the 3rd one down for the lancer.

Now I've done a lot of research on the TSI kits. I know a few people have had them,. and one guy i read about had his on for 3 years, so i know they last well and are good kits.
I also know of the couple of bits of custom fabbing that have to be done. eg. downpipe, o2 sensor. But my friend is a welder so that should be no problem and i don't mind doing it. I am also aware of the need to buy a bigger fuel pump. possibly a new fan, oil lines. etc.

Now from what I've read on the old stuff, and looking at the info on the turbo kit, it looks like they have updated some stuff. It now comes with a BOV, and it seems they have upgraded their options for fuel management.

So, i would like your honest opinions on whether you think i should go for this kit. I am planning on buying this and running it at around 7psi for a while, giving my car some extra power, until i am ready to upgrade internals, work the head get a bunch of supporting mods etc. and go for my final goal of 300hp.

Do you guys think this will be a good starting point for my final goal?

Also,. which of the 2 FMU options do you think i should go with? keeping in mind i will have this professionally tuned at a shop

or

Is there anything else I should look into getting to go along with this kit that hasn't been brought up before?

I was also thinking of getting the $400 upgrade to a T28 turbo instead of the T25. Is this a good idea or no. I know the the t25 has a faster spool, but will it be powerful enough for 300hp??? I do enjoy getting off the line fast, so this is why I'm not sure about upgrading, and would like your input

I'm looking for some serious input on this, so i'm talking to all the guys who've been here a while and have real experience in this stuff.

thanks in advance

I don't think the either of those will net you 300; plus I'd not feel comfortable with those fuel mgmt units to do that either. I'd say get the T-28 (for sure!) and get the SAFC (only since more tuners will be familiar with it and it's abilities).

BTW, don't forget to get larger injectors. I believe that "pink" WRX injectors caqn work well.

300 crank or wheel HP = either way, a T25 will work just too hard to even get to that point.

Only one car on the forums that's been dyno'd has officially passed 300whp.

That's the thread. Check out the guy's build

^yeh i know i've read over that a whole bunch.
i'm gonna do most of the stuff he has done for my final 300hp. i just want to know if this turbo kit will be sufficient to do that.

hence why i'm asking for some expert opinions

As you know, omarboy used a T3/T4 to get there. I don't know much about the TSI kit though. What turbo is RRM using in their drag lancer to make the 298 hp they are at now? The kit I'm sure would support 300 hp, I would look more into the actual turbo. And the manifold I think I heard somewhere is stronger than the tubular manifold.

i read somewhere the manifold that comes with this kit is pretty tough and infact overkill. i think some guy mentioned he even got it ported

Well the cast manifold is stronger than single tubes, but that's all I know, I know nothing about he dimensions or getting it ported.

The manifold that comes with the kit is a cast manifold. Instead of having 4 separate tubes like RRM's (not bashing, cause RRMs can handle plenty), it is all connected, like a block with tunnels going through it. It can handle way more HP than a lancer will be able to put out.

Again, my opinion is to use a larger turbo (something similiar to the above mentioned thread). The manifold will be an issue! It doesn't support an external WG. You'll have boost creep anything higher than 8-10psi on a internal WG turbo. (dependant on each application of course) Will Evo's 560 injectors work/fit?

i would do a custom setup. but i just don't think i have the time or know how to do it. I will probably be able to figure out what major parts to get. but as far as what wg to get, finding piping that fits, etc. i think i may get a little lost. If i did a custom setup i would have to have someone help me find the parts i need. I have a friend who could help me put everything together once i had all the stuff i needed. But i'm just worried i would buy the wrong stuff
