My turbo build! Finaly!

Alright, so after dealing with the fuel pump questions and headaches in my other thread, i decided ill just start a new one on my turbo build for my RRM 16g kit.

Ok so far, in the last 2.5hours, ive installed the turbo manifold and turbo and all that. It's in the car.

It was a **tch to fit in there. It didnt want to fit so we removed the fans, some AC brackets, oil dip stick tube and some brackets for the original Cat on the manifold that was also attached to the engine block.

questions:

1 - That AC brakcet i took off, it was holding a clip inplace. I removed it completely. good or bad?

2- The bracket for the Cat that was also attached to the engine block, Removed it completly also. Good or bad? Will i need that piece again?

3- Took off those stupid metal/rubber rollers thay way like 15lbs each. haha. Good or bad?

4- The hot side on the turbo is really close to the p.side fan. there is a metal heat shield on the fan (factory made), but will this be an issue? Should i get a slim fan at some point?

5- My dip stick for the oil is not fitting back in. Do i need to bend it or something? Its fitting into the hole in the engine block but i cant get that 12mm bolt back in because the bracket is too big or just wont fit. What should i do? anyone lese have this problem?

i removed some brackets i cant remember which 1 it was, but its fine. its just holding the wire in place.

metal rollers i removed too. youll be fine. i believe their for vibration or sound purposes i cant remember.

ya the hot side is close to the fan. i talked 2 people w/ a 16g kit about it and it seemed like it was melting part of the fan. mine works fine though.

yes you will need to fit the dipstick....correct me if im wrong your wastegate is prolly in the way. i bent my dipstick a little and i used a 1g dipstick because it was much smaller.

sounds good for all the above!

I guess ill have to bend my dipstick? You are right though, the waste gate and the dump pipe are in the way.

Whats a 1g dipstick? Is it off an '03 lanceR?

also, does this kit remove both cat's? i just realized this when i was under the car that the downpipe was as long as where the cat was supposed to go.

Or do i have it wrong?

also , to whoever has the 16g kit: what did you guys do with your crash bar? Did you get one made to fit around the IC or did you get a smaller IC or just left it off completely?

a 1g dipstick is off a 1g eclipse.

i have 1 cat and its on the rrm downpipe which is supplied with your kit. are you saying your downpipe is too long? did you remove your stock downpipe yet? the downpipe that was supplied with my kit.....i had to cut it by 2inches and weld back the flange to fit.

i removed the crash bar completely. so the intercooler would fit heres a pix:

well im not 100% sure if its too long because one of the bolts on the 2nd car under the car is stuck on there realy nicely. I soaked it with some lube stuff. It didnt even come off with my impact gun...ill let it sit over night.

BUt yea holding the new RRM downpipe up to the stock on, just by eyeing it, it looks like it completly will eliminate that 2nd cat. but maybe im wrong? The downpipe looks like it was cut and welded too ...like the pipeing gets smaller and then bigger.

Ill go take a pic of it and post it in a sec

it eliminates the cat that was on the stock exhaust manifold right? Also, am i supposed to only have one CE eliminator? I have one attached to the downpipe on the front hole. The o2 sensor hole in the back doesnt have one...

Here's some picks.

Downpipe:

Dam. winter is coming...see the due?! its cold out and its only 8pm when i took this!

Is it actually shorter in length of just the plastic part is smaller? Im having trouble with the actual tube though. A pic would be cool if its not too much trouble! Ill have to make a trip to a junk yard. Ill grab one off a talon, since we didnt really get eclipses here untill the last couple years...Does it have to be a TSI or can it be a n/a talon/eclipse? And the 1g's are 1990-1994 right?

And yea, the mani came painted. It's a used kit.

nice build so far, i give u props. are u having fun yet? haha. but about the dipstick,
i have the regular dipstick in mine but i bent the housing thing. i don't have paws for hands so i can squeeze my hand in there and grab the handle. dont worry too much about that...worry more about the fans hitting the turbo and making enough room so it doesnt.

talon/laser/eclipse all pretty much the same.
the laser was only introduced in the 1g. the talons were 1g and 2gs. than of course eclipse were all yrs and current.

(90-94 1g) (95-99 2g)

check the 2g dsm's as well. their dipstick might be the same as the 1g. i believe they are.

o than that must be brians old kit.

so i guess ill bend it to fit tomorrow, my only worry is ill bend it too far and the piece that goes into the block, won't fit! that could be bad!

Ill check out a junk yard for one if i can't bend this thing to fit.

The fans are clearing. Just enough space that it doesn't touch!

Going back to the downpipe thing...does it look normal to you? will i still have a cat? i want to keep the law breaking to a minimum haha I can deal with no crash bar for now but i need that cat, cause that you can see! Will the car pass an emissions test still? i dont have to do one till 2012 or 2013 i think, but i wont have the car for that long though. Gona sell it maybe in the new year or next winter. Im gona step it up a notch with a g35 coupe or rx8 The lancer isnt "the car" for me. i don't know what "the car" will be for me though haha

And yea , it was brian's old kit! how did you know?!

well dont bend the bottom part where it screws into the block. the dipstick holder is long enough that you can just bend the top part.

well it was for sale not too long ago....and you said it was used.

not a lot of lancers have the rrm 16g kit compared to rrms previous old kit...lol

haha that;s true.

And what;s the best way to bend it? When it's in the block or take it out and bend it by hand?
