I have a t3 45 trim turbo, spools pretty quick, no mufflers or resignators, just one cat, and a k&n air filter on a 2 and half inch metal pipe and MAF before the turbo intake side, but i hear no spooling or "whining" noise, just air whooshing noise, i hate it, and i have checked for leaks, none! boosts fine and fast, just hate the noise, any ideas, because all I keep reading is get a CAI but i pretty much have that covered, so any ideas would be great

You're complaining because your turbo isn't noisy? What sound were you looking for? I really hope you're aware that turbos don't sound like they do in the movies. So you have a straight pipe for an exhaust? Why would you do that yet keep the stock cat in place?

stock internals yes, and sry guy i really dont hear turbos in movies, however, i have lots of friends w cars, like srt4, wrx, evos, and some after market turbod, and turbos DO make a spooling noise, sounds like a whine,if you dont know, that you must not be around any turbo cars, and yes no muffler, but my car is deep and quiet, im afraid if i put on a muffler itll be very quiet, i keep the cat because im not boosting that much, anyways if that covers the criticisms, does anyone have any ideas , thnks

Try listening to other turboed lancers. Two completely different cars won't sound the same since they obviously have different setups and conditions. One possibility is you're running such a low PSI that not a lot of air is going through the turbo at any given point in time thus it isn't as noisy. If you want to hear your turbo, make the rest of the car quieter (ie. get a real exhaust system). Alternatively you could get a sound clip of a different car and play it whenever you want to hear the spool.

ya thank you i know two cars arent the same, and that is one idea about the psi level, and my car is quite quiet, despite having no muffler, even with no exhaust noise theres no turbo spooling, so u can take ur smart comments back, and yes get a sound clip, not funny , what is funny is when ppl come on here to ask for others ideas, hence the term, 2 heads are better than one, but when other ppl think they know it all, which they dont, try to be smart asses, but look like jack asses, however thank you for repeating information that i already knew, and since you dont know much else , besides how to try and insult ppl, why dont you visit another forum and be sarcastic to someone else , thanks

Well turbos can whine if they're broke...

so um... drive around without the filter for a while and let us know if you get that wicked cool whine a few miles down the road...

First off, calm down and learn to take a joke, no one is trying to insult you. Secondly, you cannot honestly expect to come onto a board, give people as little information as possible (essentially we know you are turboed but can't hear the turbo) and get the exact answer you want. I already suggested you listen to other turboed lancers and see whether they sound similar to yours. I also gave you a possible explanation namely that it's boost pressure issue. It seems to me that you are fishing for an answer (ie. you have one in mind but want someone else to say it, somehow validating it) rather than looking for genuine assistance. If you notice, I and most of the other people here, have been here a long time and we have no intention of leaving any time soon. So in summation, relax and actually listen to people rather than just snapping at them.

ok let me repost asking only "intelligent" ppl for ideas, no a broken turbo wouldnt spool depending, so it wouldnt but, another moron great.... you clearly dont have a turbo car, or you probably let rrm put one in for you, so u dont know anything...
if anyone has something CONSTRUCTIVE to say, please let me know, all the dumb ppl without actual knowledge, save your finger strength by no longer typing ,
how hard is the concept, ive built like 3 turbo cars w friends, they all have spooling noise even at 5 psi, and if you look online they define the spooling noise of a turbo as " turbo whine" so go from there?

ok yes i have some assumptions, first, the downpipe can be expanded to a wider pipe , im guessing its 2 and half inches now, or maybe it is the cat needs to be straight thru, maybe its something with the intake piping length, or possibly its the low psi boosting on a fairly midsized turbo, not tiny turbos like most lancers from rrm? thats why im asking for any ideas from anyone so i can have more than one opinion

it's it ball bearing turbo? i think ball bearing turbo has that whining sound. i used to have t3/t4 turbo on my rsx, and never had the whining noise, but i don't mind, i know the turbo is doing it's job.

Ok I'll say this more formally, calm down and stop openly insulting people and calling them names. I understand you are frustrated but at the same time, you have to understand the humor of this. My guess is you are running such a low amount of PSI with a relatively large turbo that it doesn't sound as loud as say a stock evo (pushes 18-20 PSI stock) or a stock WRX (11 PSI stock on a tiny turbo). One option is to change to a smaller turbo if the noise means that much to you. You could also try changing the wastegate if that's the sound you're talking about (assuming you're running an external wastegate). I can't see any other way to increase the sound of the turbo.
