External Wastegate

How loud is your external waste gate? To be honest I thought it would be little louder. I drove turbo h22 and that **** sounded mean as hell (on 8psi).

Post some vids!!! I'll post mine this Saturday.

it depends on the lengh of the dump tube. Is yours tied into the exhaust?

If mine would go to the exhaust then I would not ask the question.

Mine is open dump tube. It's very short.

I think it also depends on how much boost you are trying to run on what size turbo.

^Exactly, if you're only running 6 PSI, it's not going to be very loud since less gas is being moved. Listen to the wastegate on a 20+ PSI Evo or STi, it's freakin loud as hell.

That explains it.

h22 turbo on 8 psi with t3/t4 turbo (ebay) with long dump tube = super loud (sounds like huge exhaust leak, lol)

So does the lenght of the dump tube matters???

The length won't matter. All that matters is that the turbo's ideal range for boost is higher than what the setup is boosting at. Because it's the wastegate's job to vent off the excess exhaust the dump tube will sound like a loud and annoying muffler.

Wouldn't how much boost you run be a major factor? If you think about it, the air being released at 6 PSI will move slower than the air being released at 20 PSI and will therefore be quieter.

Also the quality of the WG would make a difference...some do open faster than others.

Take a 30psi capable turbo. If you run 6psi, you still have tons of flow that isnt needed and gets released out the dump tube. Now you run that same turbo at 28psi, you have just about all the flow going to the turbine wheel and almost none to the wastegate. So high psi = less noise, low boost = lots of noise.
