hey wouldnt D mode be safer for your car anyway?

When you're in Sport mode.. you still have to "change gears" by tapping the paddles... which is moving something down there..

Wouldnt you rather want that CVT redlining it and gaining power anyway?

Help me if im wrong.. because were planning a jerry rig turbo for a few days to see how it goes...

you cant really redline a CVT it kinda putts out and stays around 6k even if you stay on the gas.. thats in sports mode of course..

but i think overall D is safer..

do not oporate heavy boost in D mode, the constant dynamic state can lead to failure if counter heat measures are not taken.

Haha jerry rig = fail. Hope you have stupid mechanics at the dealership that can't tell you jerry rigged a turbo when you take it in to get your engine fixed.

it was only a one day thing anyway...

just wanted to see what CVT and a turbo looks like...

No boost loss since you're never shifting anywhere, they have some crazy CVT built drag cars dont they?

Hello everyone. This happend to me too. Although I don't have a turbo installed. I was riding down the street like about 40 to 50 mph when my sound system blew on me(lol). At that point my car disengage from Drive mode. While the car was rolling, I was stepping on the throttle and I would get no response. The engine revved like it was on neutral even though it showed it was on Drive. I pulled over, turn off the car and checked my system (lol). I got back on and the car work perfectly fine. It only happened to me that one time. I did had about a couple of hundreds of miles in. This happened like about 3 weeks to a month after I pushased my car new. I ride a GTS '09 CVT BTW. Car is running fine since then.

He is right, more hp = more tq. More tq = more friction. More friction = more heat. You have to put in some sort of trans fluid cooler, like on big truck that tow a lot of weight.

I'm sorry bro, but I'm going to have to throw up the "shananagins" flag here. You are telling us that you are going to spend an unknow number of hours fabricating a custom turbo kit for a CVT Lancer, to only have it on there for ONE F@$&*$! day? Not even to keep? How will you tune it? How will you keep the CVT from loosing its marbels??? PICS????????

Probably not!!!!

And no, there are no "Crazy" CVT drag cars. You see, what makes the trans so great is the reduction of friction! By adding a substantial amout of power, you are putting the trans in a position where it is no longer efficiant. It is so sensitive in fact, that you have to tell it to "shut up and color" in order for it to work in a boosted environment.

OMG, I can not belive I am reading this, nor that I have actualy bought in to it enought to formulat a responce to this CRAP!

Wow, I must be dreaming! Quick, someone pinch me! NOW!

LOL....*Chuck Norris backhand*

Maybe hes thinking of how the top fuels work? They aren't CVT but, they do run the 1/4 mile in one continuous gear, not sure how its works exactly though, but when you do 320mph in 4 seconds, you don't have time to shift.

As for this "saftey" mode thing, isnt it the same thing as LIMP mode? Shouldn't have to worry about it with turbo applications, if so, I'm sure RRM or Xtremeboost will find a way around it.

With top fuel, its a pnumatic system that slowly (if you can call 4 seconds and 320 mph slow) engages up to 12 ceramic plates allowing the car to accelerate without spinning the tires, but they get a new clutch system after every race b/c it basicly welds it self together. But, $8000 clutch = 4 second car!

At the begining, you see a burn out. All 12 plates lock allowing the gear to exceed the traction of the tires. Durring the race, its kind of like grinding the crap out of the clutch. Each one slips alowing the gear to slowly meet the engine RPM. Once the gear matches the RPMs and the RPMs are maxed out, you are at peak mph for the car. This is the reason you never hear the motor accelerate! All you hear is idle and WOT! 800 rpm to 11,000 rpm instantly! Wish my lancer had that kind of throttle responce.

so all i see hear is people talking about the saftey mode of being in D but free revving like in nuetrel. i havnt had that but i have had it be in D and i leave work and (with the help of the loose gravel of course) spin-em ( the tires ) and its like im in sport mode cuz i just high rev's after i get traction and am normal on the throttle. its not till i slow to almost a stop that it starts acting normal again. is this called something else? or is this also part of "safty mode"
