Turbo GTS Vs. Evo X Vs. 09+ RA
Just so people are clear, this exact topic (can my lancer perform like an evo?) came up with the last generation of the lancer and at the end of the day, the answer was no. Even if you take into account cars like the RRM shop car or Omar's beast, the lancer can never be an evo. When you look at the top representatives of the lancer community, the sacrifices that had to be made to get there are not within most people's ability and the end product was still different than what some people want. Obvious examples of these sacrifices are money, reliability, driveability and practicality. A 300 whp lancer isn't going to be cheap, the transmission and motor are going to be temperamental and a potential time bomb if you're not careful, it's going to be loud, smelly, ride like a brick (assuming you want to get anywhere near evo handling) and not something you'd want to pick up your girlfriend in. A 200 whp lancer on the other hand would be a total blast to drive. The higher you go up in power, the more you have to give up. When you start getting into the territory of doubling the stock output, you're going to have to put up with a lot of potential grief.
^ Aint that the truth! 200hp and change is a good number! Over 250hp you gonna start having issues! This car would be so fun to drive with that. Really, I would just like more throttle responce and a deeper exhaust note, but 200hp? That would be awsome!
I really like how the GTS handles, and to make it drive like an Evo, both in power and ride, would really detract from how smooth the car is now. The Evo at speeds grater that 45mph drives like its on rails! Its really stable but very twitchy. It reacts to everything, steering inputs no matter how small, bumps in the road, uneven pavement, wind, just about everything!
I think that trying to crack 250 with this car, you are really going to have to worry about a lot of parts, coming from together! I mean really, read my sig, it says it all!
Still would be kool to see someone with some money build a crazy hp drag monster though!

the 4B11 has the basics to be a great NA motor. such a shame that everybody is talking about turbos. won't SOMEBODY seriously tune the car NA? i wanna see 200 whp NA on this baby.
if i can afford it, i'd love to do this project myself but alas i cannot... so why haven't any shops with the knowhow done so?

we are speaking 200whp right and not 200hp? in that case we'd all have turbos at 200hp and then 05 eclipse GTS come stock with 200hp and the newer eclipse come with more than 200hp so i hope you all mean whp

I'm with you though, I would love to see a high rev, all motor, 200+ hp daily driver.
Well yes, Who cares what the motor kicks at the crank! If it aint on the ground, it don't matter!
compression, cams, P&P, I/H/E, and of course proper tune. ANY engine can make good power from all these things. BUT imo 4B11 has the stuff to really rev high, safely!
maybe it's the old honda fanboy in me but the engine looks good. it just gets no NA love from the factory, then no NA love from the tuners. everybody just wants to throw a turbo on it. it's like a beautiful model with small breasts. every employer just wants her to get implants
Based on Mitsubishi's track record, I wouldn't hold your breath. I also don't see a lot of people wanting to spend the kind of money needed to get a decent NA setup when a turbo kit offers far more bang for the buck. What you've essentially listed is a complete rebuild, which isn't cheap.
Bottom line is that it's a great IDEA, but no one wants to put work into an N/A build. The few people that have tried on EvoM have just gotten frustrated and given up.
well it's more of a cry for mitsu to make better stock cars so we don't have to keep modding everything
i totally understand aftermarket turbo would outweigh NA build up in every possible category, especially bang for buck. however i'd still love to see better NA performance from mitsu and tuners alike.

i am new to the
family and i bought an '08 WW GTS auto. while i am happy with the car i must admit i should have my homework. i see now that i should have waited to buy either the '09 GTS or put a little more with it to get the RA. it looks like we are getting hosed with a 2.0L and the newer cars get a 2.4L granted there isnt that much of a HP difference it seems to be a better starting point for upgrades later on. like the old saying goes "there's no replacement for displacement."thats just my opinion.

i agree. with you however, like i said i am new to
and i didnt do my homework. i enjoy my car but it does lack in the "get up and go" department. my wife's 08 Mazda 3 isnt as fun to drive but it will get up and go. both cars are automatics btw.

Well i figure my opinions on this
Although my original ideas were to save up for a nice downpayment for the RA when it debuted, the most i would have come up with would be about 2k, and trade in my 04 lancer , i owed as much as the car was worth so i wouldn't be back end in negative equity...however, i was number crunching and realized, .....there was no way i could afford the RA......due to lower gas mileage, higher insurance rates.......and higher monthly payments, so i just went for a decent ES, right about the same i was paying for my 04 per month.
Now, maybe not now, or soon, but if i came across the money i would def. turbo my car, SUre, it wont be no evo, or an RA but i'm sure as hell know it will be a blast to drive.......and the best part is, is i've seen my car go from 0 miles.....bone stock, into a crazy 200hp street machine......the car will have my personality.....my tastes, as i've built it from the ground up........no factory chose my car for me..
IN that sense, i'm satisfied with purchasing an ES and not the RA
although AWD would be just awesome

i believe think the idea of a Turbo GTS if tuned rite can possibly beat a RA or possibly keep up with an EVO X
WHY u ask
Cause alot of the time its not about the car its about the driver
i have a friend who drives a priemum RSX modded NA can keep up with STIs in rally and type s in auto X
so i mean alot of it is about driver skills and not about the car itself
but if it were the same person driving a turboed GTS and then drove a RA then the RA would win
for me i want to throw on a turbo on my GTS but i want 2 wait til warrenty is over
