Turbo question
Turbo question
ok im really thinkin about turbo my 08 lancer. i looked everywhere but couldnt find info that i needed. my question is - is the turbo going to damage the engine in the long run? i dont want a really big turbo i want somthing to get me 180whp and be safe for the car. is there such thing like a small but safe turbo? how are the factory turbos like the gti's made ? can i get somthing like it and be safe?
no long term tests have been done in 1 year. Turbo's have JUST been released so you will be waiting at least another year until we know how much wear and tear will go onto the engine.
Also to me spending $5000.00 for 40 whp seems a little much of a step for me. Why not just exhaust, ECU, and cams

Question : is the turbo going to damage the engine in the long run?
Answer : 100% no as long as you run the turbo with-in the limits we have tested the system at !!
Running a turbo on a high compression motor is nothing new at all !! In-fact just about every honda out there does so and have been doing for many years .
We have been running our set-up now for about 3 weeks and it should be up for sale within a week or two ..

our lancers stock put out only 140whp stock..
turbo lancers are putting out around 210whp
so crank speaking...we go from a factory rated 152hp to 240+
with exhaust ecu and whatever you wont go any higher than 165whp from the bone stock 140..and by that time you've spent about 2.5k on mods why not spend another 1.5k and get a turbo..extremeboost i heard is aiming for around the 4k mark...theres lots of decisions
Actually the amount of whp the stock 08 lancers are putting out is about 120-130WHP. With the turbo, either RRM or Extremeboost, you're looking at 50%+ increase, so 205WHP from the RRM Turbo running at a safe 7 or 8 PSI while extreme boost is going to run, from what i've heard, about 14 PSI. So you would gain a lot. This would put you ahead of the RalliArt, as RRM claims, it has beaten it with this turbo. As for running safely, the RRM is running at a low PSI with stock internals, so if you want to be safe with a turbo, just run at a lower PSI with either kit. The less you beat on it, the better your car will handle it. As for exhaust, ecu, and cams. You aren't going to gain that much WHP which is more important than crank. What the person above me said, might as well save a couple grand more and turbo.

^^ no but will probably net you 25 to 30 depending on how aggresive the cams and Ecu flash are.
however those may cost you $1500 - $2500 depending on where you get it, the turbo is going to cost you $5000.00+ with the new exhaust and clutch needed.

you will just have to wait and see what parts come out, the current ecu is only for 13 hp and there are no cams.
edit: my car is more for autox racing so I am more about the handling.
but I would say the intake was a good investment.
