turbo exhaust sound? input?

I'm looking for that throaty crackling like srt4 sti sound, I know that is because of there header and engine too, but muffler and exhaust play a part I believe. I have literally straight thru exhaust right now, from header thru turbo no cat no resonator no muffler and 3 inch downpipe ....My car is too quiet for all that and plain sounding...Any suggestions on a good muffler that can get me more towards what I hope for...or what are some of you turbo lancers running? How do you like the sounds??Thanks

try getting a turbo back exhaust system my exhaust sounds really quiet and nice doesn't even sound turbo until i hit boost. If you want just get a turbo muffler and it should give you a good sound.

If you basically have a straight pipe, that's as loud as you can go (since it has the least restriction).

Oh when I said mines quiet....sry, I meant to imply I want the more throaty sound, the actual loudness i am fine with it being quiet, I was just hoping for something that can change it to sound more aggressive.... but good ideas guys thnks

Yeah really on a lancer, once you turbo it, you remove the exhaust loudness. You may want to try a straight through muffler if you don't have one already. Or just get an electric cutout after your downpipe and drive with it open all the time except when you need to be quiet. It won't get much more throaty than that. Srt4s are 2.3 liters and have no mufflers i think (it's either no mufflers, or no cats, I can't remember which one).

SRT-4s have 2.4 L motors and have essentially catted straight pipes. I don't think they have mufflers or resonators. A major reason for the way they sound is the displacement difference. I suspect that the turbo they use and the PSI they run also plays a role.

youre never going to have the SRT or STi sound sadly. The SRT has alot more displacement, and the STi is running a longitudnal (spl?) motor which both sound a hell of alot different then our smaller strait 4. Open pipes with a wider cat are about the closest youll get to that sound range.

my exhaust set-up is turbo mani - flex pipe - test pipe - exhaust system pipe - muffler. Still not loud at all...i would say if u get a turbo muffler it will sound a little deeper trust me i've done both but didn't like the turbo muffler on my exhaust so i went back to the regular muffler.

It's the boxer motor that make Subarus sound the way they do. The unequal length headers also contribute to it since the exhaust gases come in pulses rather than as a smooth stream.
