internal / external wastegate turbos

opinions on these?

my first plan was to go with a external but my friend said i would save alot of time and money going with an internal one?

has anyone had experience with both of these?

feed back greatly appreciated.

well your friend is correct. your internal wastegates will normally cost less.. one reason is because u dont have to purchase the wastegate.. i enjoy my setup, its a t3 with an external tial 38mm.. car sounds good and i like the looks of the external turbo setups.. if your going for cheap as possible.. then a used (or even new) turbo with an internal wastegate is the cheapest option.. other wise your be purchasing mutiple items that are very cheap..

plus u have to remember about your manifold.. not many manifolds are setup for a 4g94 with an external wastegate, so u would be looking at a custom built manifold also.. not very cost effective..(my setup cost me an arm and a leg, but i love it, its unique and it looks great)
do what you want.. but your friend is correct, normally a internal wastegated turbo u can get for cheaper(most OEM turbos have internals, and there are alot floating around).

All depends... as usual. If you plan using a turbo that meets your needs best, an internal wastegate is fine. The only time its bad, is when you try to run a turbo that really moves alot of air and you only use a small amount of its capabilities. THis would cause boost creep. THis is the reason you see lots of honda guys running very large turbos at 8-10psi and larger 40-44mm wastegates.

The turbo on the Lancer Evolution is a 16g, internally wastegated. The Speed Corps manifold is set up for the stock setup(internal).
