Turbo: What Else Would I Need?
Turbo: What Else Would I Need?
Hey, I was wondering if y'all could tell me what else I'd need to have a complete, basic, intercooled turbo kit if I already had these parts:
1 Garrett Turbo
1 External Wastegate
1 Manifold
1 Downpipe
1 Fuel Pressure Regulator
1 Oil Return Line and Fitting
1 Air Filter with Piping
1 Turbo Timer
1 Blow Off Valve
1 Hi-Flow Intercooler with Mounting Hardware
- Pressure Tubes
- Rubber Hose Connections and Clamps
Thanks!

you'll also need a walbro 255 fuel pump, and maybe some larger
injectors if you plan on running big boost. I would also suggest contacting RRM about there new piggy-back ECU. I've heard alot of possitive feed-back about that HOT item.

So what I've listed is all I need for an initial complete install? No other guages or wires, etc.? I understand later I might want to add on for bigger boost, but is this enough to get started is all I'm asking, or do I need additional items.
Forged Pistons / Rods
New Engine Bearings
Piggyback (Stage 2)
Lighter Camshaft
Probably some injectors and an lsd if youre gonna track it
You might wanna think about changing out the engine if youre gonna go this far though.

Assuming you are aiming to do 6 psi or so to start then...
Instead of a fuel pressure regulator you'll need an FMU, easier to use to boost stock injectors to a high enough pressure to get the fuel you'll need.
You NEVER need a turbo timer, just don't boost the last 2-5 minutes of driving, or always let the car run a little before turning it off.. pretty simple.
Otherwise yes you pretty well have it covered. A wideband would also be very very helpful for making sure you aren't going to destroy your engine. You need your AFR in the 12.5-13 range. You can get a very good (and actually one of the cheapest out there) wideband from www.plxdevices.com
Let me know if you have more questions.
Later.
Steve
i think everything has pretty much been covered, but i saw you listed a downpipe as an item, so its inevitable you will need an up pipe as well, up pipe from header to turb, and downpiep form turbo to exhaust
sdhtown is right.. FMU is needed, no fpr, and a 255 walboro is a def
blow-off vavle.. go with a stock eclipse BOV or a greddy, any others ive heard cause stalling such as HKS, so stick with a greddy type s, make sure its recirculating and not VTA
wastegate... i suggest a TiAL cause its what rrm uses and basically its a sweet wastegate, make sure its VTA or having it routed to your exhaust, either way
i suggest at least an AFR Gauge, EGT Gauge, and Boost Gauge, this will save your engine as I know very well, along those lines a fuel pressure gauge doesn't hurt either
