I remember riding shotgun in Vince's Lancer a few months back, and I was impressed that a little compact sedan with a slushbox could have as much kick in it. An affordable, reliable car that's fun to drive. He has his cake and eats it too!

Sounds cool vince. The only thing im worried about when I decide to go turbo is the fact that #1 i have an automatic, but now your my ispiration haha, and #2, which is installation. I just dont wanna have to pay someone more than 500-700$ if i do decide ot have some one install it for me.

Umm you loosen a couple bolts around the compressor wheel housing and you can turn it any direction you want, the housing is more or less clamped to the rest of the turbo, swing it around to where ever it fits.

he is talking about cutting the housing and turning it, as the turbo doesnt just flop flop around.

You need to take the snap ring out from the housing and VERY CAREFULLY remove the housing, you dont want to damage the compressor fins.

take that peice to a machine shop, they will cut the top off, flip it 180 degrees and re-weld it. make sure they know how to weld aluminum.

i've read alot on this forum about people not being able to hear the bov on the lancer -- can you hear yours? (any chance you could get a friend to make a sound clip of it while your driving plz?) :-D

Thanks!

If you cant really hear your bov its probably because you dont even have one. You probably have a CBV. Compressor Bypass Valve and it releases the air into the intake instead of the atmosphere.

I also believe that if you have a really loud BOV that you are releasing too much air into the atmosphere and you will probably be running to rich. Not positive on that one though. I know someone will tell me whether or not Im right.

Sorry if this is OT , but if i get the Non-IC turbo for my a\t... will i be able to hear the bov? .. and many people have been telling me that its not safe to run a turbo without an IC, but that wouldn't matter as long as i let it cool down.. right? I just really want the turbo for the sound :-D haha.. thats why i'm not interested in getting the full kit... ($4200... argh) -- anyways -- thnx for any replies

you can still have a recirculating BOV and still hear it. it all depends on the brand on BOV and where it recirculates into the piping, the closer to the intake filter, the louder.

oh ya there are huge diffs, well not really, but def noticable. Ill let guru_del handle that question more in depth though b/c he went from non-IC to the IC kit.

it is safe to run a turbo w/o an intercooler, just less efficient and you are only able to run lower boost levels safley. as far as lettin the car cool down, the intercooler doesn't have much of anything to do with letting the car cool down as it does with keeping the air going from the turbo to the throttle body coolER. there are definit HP gains from IC to non-IC, but yeah, i'll let guru handle that.
