electronics upgrade
ok i was wondering when it would be neccesary to upgrade the electronics and what i should go with
i ordered my turbo kit and am puting a 2.5" turbo back on at the same time of install
i wanted to know if there is any kind of tuning required when i install the turbo kit. if there is then i will send it to a shop to be put on
i know i can install it myself no problem but i dont know anything about tuning
any help would be great

Yep, no tuning needed. The stock ECU handles the boost just fine. Just slap it in and you are good to go. Nothing like the first time the boost kicks in and you get sucked back into your seat, it's almost as good as sex.
haha... yeah.. i've gone 8 months with no gauges.. no boost controller.. no a/f controller.. its perfectly fine.. have fun when you get it in.. but on the side not.. have fun with 5psi then boost 7psi later on.. if you have the RRM header and test pipe it should be no problem to boost 7psi.. but get use to the feeling first.. + let the car get use to it and let the bolts tighten up and stay tightened before you really start pushing it.. haha.. have fun with it

Not that I have any reason to believe RRM's kit isn't doing what it's supposed to within its intended ranges, but how can you say with any confidence that your car is perfectly fine without any diagnostic evidence, twinkie?
I would not feel confident about any particular function of my car without some reliable and accurate way to measure it (i.e guages). Not if God himself had installed his own brand parts on my car.
I'd recommend at very least boost and EGT gauges. Make sure your wastegate is opening at the correct point, not spiking or overboosting. Make sure your exhaust temps are within acceptable (and consistent) ranges. I'd consider those the bare necessities with any aftermarket turbo upgrades. Fuel and/or oil pressure would be good too, but I think of as less of a necessity...unless you have known fuel or oil pressure problems. Trust me though, if you ever have problems down the road, you'll wanna kick yourself in the groin for not having a way to monitor and troubleshoot. And the more readings you have the more easily and accurately you can notice, pinpoint and address any problems you might have.

I don't know what you mean by gauge cluster but the Lancer and Evolutions electrical systems are damn near identical. There's a few different pin-outs, and the extra writing for things like pillar speakers, water sprayers, and a couple other things, but otherwise it's the same.
Besides that, gauges are very simple for the most part. Boost requires a manual gauge (since you don't have an existing sensor), power and ground basically. EGT would be the probe, power and ground. Piece of pie.

A boost controller is used to prevent overboosting and to raise your boost setting without manually setting your wastegate or changing springs. Turbo timers run your car for a brief time to prevent coking of oil in the oil lines, and AFC's are used for fuel changes. C'mon, man. You're not even tryin' to look for an answer on your own.
I have the first two and a programmable ECU. Am I rich? Nope. I just put a lot of money into my car, and I take the turbo thing very seriously.

EGT, boost gauge and turbo timer are the only good choices as far as turbo electronic necessities. Others are just candy. Gotcha Hobie, I'm so lazy i let the experts do the searching
j/k Thanks for the tips!
