Read from the beginning of the thread: this originally started as a discussion about remote TRUNK releases, nothing to do with remote STARTS.

the "power" option I'm referring to (alas, I did not explain it well) meant for a remote trunk release, using a galant key fob with the "trunk" button on it. I believe it's possible to do, but was looking for anyone else that had explored this idea. I realize aftermarket alarms and keyless entry systems can accomplish this, but I'm trying to use the stock system already in place. (since I'm hoping the system has a spare channel, and is possibly the same unit used in the galant, that comes WITH a remote trunk opening feature)

all clear?

For anyone still wondering about the galant remotes, I actually bought the three button galant remotes on ebay for my lancer, and they work perfectly. Granted, the trunk button does nothing because the factory trunk release is cabled, but as far as the lock and unlock go, they work perfectly. All you need to do is make sure the FCC ID on the galant remote is the same as the one used for your lancer. You can obtain this number by going to your local dealer and asking to look at a keyless remote for your car. My FCC ID was OUC-G8D-525MA. I think that all lancers have this same FCC ID number, but if yours is different, make sure you match it to the remote you are going to buy. As far as the trunk release goes, you will have to invest in an aftermarket keyless entry with trunk release, and add on a solenoid to pop the release cable. I have a good friend that works for , so I know that the lancer entry only supports lock and unlock features, but if anyone needs spare or replacement remotes to lock/unlock your lancer, then the remotes on ebay work flawlessly, and at a much lower price. My local mitsu shop wanted $99 for each of the remotes, and I paid $30 for a brand new pair (2) still in the packaging!!
