Asking for advice on alarm system

there's a non-certified local store near by that is selling Clifford matrix 2.5 (something like that) for $185 installed, it included remote start and remote entry. I think its a pretty good deal, but isn't this too good to be true? will they like mess up my car on installing the remote start? or will they purposely mess up my car so I would go back later to ask and they charge me extra to fix that whatever they messed up? or will they not know how to install the stuffs properly so the security would be easily broken in by stealers? because i heard that the main unit has to be intalled in some specific places so they would not be noticed easily, and the siren wires must not be easily cut, and the sensors must be in a specific place to sense all parts of the car evenly..... i dont know anything, these are just things i read on web sites.... please help... thanks, appreciate any help or advices

Local shops can make it very cheap but you are better off either doing it by yourself if you have TIME. If you will plan to do it by yourself or someone will install it for you get crutchfield.
But if you don't have the time just go to the local shop make sure to get some kind of warranty or a receipt and get the best alarm they have not the cheapest one.
That's my advice!

I beg to differ on that one. I had my alarm installed at a certified dealer and the the job was so half a$$ed that I took the time to redo everything myself. But at least I can say that I have a lifetime warranty on the install even though they did such a hack job.

Anyway, it's hit or miss, that same dealer did an install on my previous car and it was clean. As for the install on my wife's car, I'm still learning it's dirty little secrets. But at least I can say the install is 100% covered... Which has saved me $100's just on replacement remotes...

Anyway, getting back on topic, find a installer that will warranty the install for the life of the car. Preferably find yourself an authorized DEI dealer... Go to www.Directed.com and there's a search function there for each line of products for authorized dealers close to whatever zip code you enter...

On a side note, Matrix 2.5 doesn't have remote start capabilities. You might be refering to the Matrix RSX 3.5 and it's equivilent is the viper 791xv... Either way, DEI's products are good, I've been using them for years and you can't go wrong. As for who's doing the installing, find someone who will warranty the work... It'll save you headaches in the long run...

I say go ahead and purchase the alarm of your choice and if you feel comfortable enough, let them install it. Otherwise, take it to a reputable company. And for that extra peace of mind I feel you're looking for, don't give them your home or work address, nor the city you live in.

I heard with those two-ways you can kill the ignition from up to a 1/2 a mile away.

yeah... 1/2 mi in an open field... supposedly the compustar 2wss has a 1.25 mi range... but that's an expensive system altogether... What ever you decide on, best of luck and Merry Christmas to all!!!

lol i still havnt gotten an alarm yet! after almost a year!I've been trying to learn about the installation but darn, u cant learn anything unless u have the alarm in your hands. So i was thinking if i should just go ahead and buy a set that has no remote start, only keyless entry and alarm. That shouldnt be too hard to install right? is it a simple wire color matching? any suggestion on what system i should get (keyless entry, alarm, and maybe trunk release)?
thanks!
