improving sound
I have the ls version of the lancer and have always been considering a sound system. however, the ls comes with 6-speakers unlike that of bothe the es and oz that only come it 4. i think the sound i have now is nice but could be better? should i invest in some new speakers? any recommendations? and then later on i could think about a sub or amp
as for improving it, by doing this, will i get cleaner fuller deeper sound? i understand that optimum clarity is onlly achieved through satelite radio bu ti don't wanna get into that

Depends on what kind of sound you want. If you want massive amounts of bass, just drop a pair of 10s or 12s in the trunk. Personally I'd go for a clearer sound, so I'm gonna get just a single 8 or MAYBE a 10.
Up front you should get a component setup or match up a pair of 6 1/2s with a pair of tweeters you can stick on your doors.
As for the back, I'd go for a set of 2 or 3 way midrange speakers.
I'm no sound expert, but this is what I've had set up in my previous car and I loved it. Best of luck to you whichever way you decide to go.

depends on your budget too. you have the LS so you gotta go with a new set of components up front. that is the least you should do, and power them with an amp to bring out the clarity. new headunit isn't necessary unless you got the cash and want really clear sound. for that make sure you get at least 2 volt preamp outputs, even better is 4 volt.
if you got tons of money, maybe consider an unamplified headunit with 4 volt or more preamp output, a really good EQ, a 4 ch amp to power new fronts and rears (look for speakers that can handle 100 watts rms, a pretty good number for those), and a mono amp to power a pair of 12" subs (400 watts is plenty, go as high as say 1000watts)

The first thing you should do (I don't have experience with mitsu stock heads) is replace the stock reciever with one that puts out more and cleaner power with a more managable EQ. Any new speakers you will get will lose quality from the lack of good clean power from the stock head. I do have experience with this, I have at one time been a stereo installer. You could get the best speakers in the world but they won't sound very good unless you have good clean power... if you are more serious than just a minor change... first thing to do is get a new head, then get an amp for the speakers and at the same time get like one 12 or two 10s and a mono amp for the subs, then change out the speakers..
If you need any help with anything else either picking out what to get or help installing PM me

if you dont want to change your factory speakers, i have an es and i put a 300 watt kenwood amp to them, they sound decent, nothing great but it is about half the price of buying new speakers and you would want to put an amp to them anyhow or they sound like crap... add a sub or two to that and its decent.
Replace everything. Satelite radio is not the best thing to listen to; its only better than regular radio. The LS sound system only includes A-Pillar mounted tweeters which is nothing special even for a stock radio system. Throw in some Zapco C2K amps and make sure you use the SYMBlink; get an eclipse head unit; get a very high quality component set Boston MB Quart Diamond Audio Canton Scan-speak; get yourself 2 10" subwoofers Image Dynamics and make sure they're all properly installed then listen to CDs with high quality recording and low distortion tracks. I know its a lot but thats how you do it
