JL is good don't get me wrong, but not worth the money. Their amps are great but over priced. They're subs are over rated until you get to a W6 or W7 and I'm not paying that much for a sub. If you're trying to build a Sound Quality competition system you'd be better spending your money on some Focal Highs and Mids and clean amps with cheater RMS ratings like Phoenix Gold then shelling out 500 on up for a sub. My old shop has built and tuned many of USACi Placing cars and the best sub we found for the money was Infinity Kappa Perfects. We have 7 Top 5 finishes at World finals with these subs. If you're trying to put a DB Drag car together, JL isn't they way to go either. You need more power. JL is like a name, just like Alpine, everybody wants it, but they can't afford the stuff that if really of any quality. I could suggest so many other options to get your moneys worth but it doesn't have the catchy name of JL to it.

JL i would say is on top for consumer market....
As far as competing, check out subwoofers from DD, Treo, XXX, Shocker, and some other small companies, they get LOUD.
Speakers from Focal, CDT, Crystal, ADS, MB Quart are all nice.

jl's are hot, but i would only buy em whole sale price. Their retails are overpriced. Mtx, Kicker, and Rockford will do the job to me,considering they are not too high in price.

Talk about not worth the money! You can buy the raw drivers from the home audio guys for 1/2 the price. They totally rape the car guys. I agree with the Perfects also the guy that said DD/Treo/XXX. Id also say the eclipse and my fav IDQs for SQ/good output/price/weight/small box.For Amazing SQ for the real world (no eqs) factory local install try CDT, Image Dynamics, PG Ti, Diamond

my next question is i want a spl/sq set up. i figure the most space i can probably work with is 2-2.5 cubic feet, what sub set up would be best? so far i have thought about one 12 or 15 ported, 2 10s ported, 2 12s sealed. also, what subs would you recommend for my amp? i have always liked the kappa perfects, they sound really nice, but does not seem like they would work in my case. i also like the alpine type r's and heard good things about the type x's. i have an adire audio brahma 12, but i dont think it will be as loud as these other set ups. i would definitely appreciate your help.

I got a 400w by 1 mtx amp, and i use to have one 12"infinity kappa perfect. I blew it when i was only running half the power of the amp. I went thru three of them, so finally i got tired of it. I bought two mtx 10'' subs 5000 series. THey held better power and they pound way harder than the infinity i had. I never had a problem then. I recommend either going for one 12" 7000 series mtx sub or two 10" 5000 series subs.Keep it mtx all the way, not that you have to, but i just found it less problems.
i am possibly looking for another sub. since i have a 1500watt amp, i figure its not worth it to only use 750 for my one 12. what do you think about the orion hcca 12? i used to have one in my last car and it sounded very good, not sure how the new ones sound since there are no dealers near me. any other subs you recommend for the 1500watts? either one 12, 15(hcca 1500watt box seems smaller than normal 15s), or 2 10s that can handle 750watts.
