I used to own a 99 eclipse, and the pocket below the radio had screw holes on the side that would allow you to screw it into the lancer radio brackets. That way, you could have a pocket in the top din.
heres a guy selling it,

Part Number: MR250558:
Has some tubes in the back. some sort of structural thing, I guess. Can't really discern their function. It's made of a softer, deformable ABS plastic. It feels more pliable, but less solid. It has a slightly smaller "overhang" over whatever opening you put it in (about 1mm less). It also has what looks like a handwritten MR250556 stamped on the back in addition to the part number above (maybe a replacement for a different part number?). The surface has some texture to it, but I wouldn't call it rough.
Part Number MR117067:
Also made of ABS plastic, but is more solid and durable. More rigid with less give. Harder to twist. The back only has some slight structural ribs. Other than that it's clean. The finish is much smoother and it has a bigger overhang than the other. The clips feel more solid and the fit and finish are better.
From the front, these look almost identical. Some horizontal indentation lines across the front.
Either would work, but the MR117067 seems like it would be a better mounting surface, hold better in the opening, and has a better finish look, but might show a scratch or screw-up worse than the other part number.

I disagree. It just makes it a huge waste of space with a badge that was obviously DIYed on.
Not trying to be rude, but it ain't the greatest thing since sliced bread, OK?
read carefully man, all yall do is criticize me on here i said its an alright idea i didnt say omg im a freakin genious. its not a damn waste of space, you rather me leave a big hole there? cuz im sure not gonna go out and buy a tv or anything because i have a life other than my car worry about.

Why would you take the time and effort to move the head unit down to the lower cubby if you have no intention of putting somthing useful in the top din opening? I would only move the head unit if I was going to put a screen/gauges/switches, etc in there. Not only does it look bad, but now it's harder for you to see the screen and hit buttons on the head unit. But to each his own.
ok i got the black panel cdplayer to be hidden because i had a break in with my previous vehicle. well it being at the top was vey noticeable , at the bottom its not. plus at the top it was at an angle and i couldnt see the screen on the button panel, with it at the bottom, i can read it. it is not in the way, its much better down there. and the piece i put at top is plexi with black paint. i am thinking of doing another one thta lights up mitsu signs and **** but i think i will leave it how it is. it looks better in person, ive had no bad comments in person. both guys and girls loved it. i like it, i dont care if yall dont.

You finally have the right attitude. It doesn't matter if anyone on the Internet likes it. It's your car. As long as you're happy with it. Just don't get mad when you ask for opinions.
Here's a pic of my setup for an idea of what to put in the original deck area (sorry, the pic was taken at night):

The guage panel is from 42Draft Designs, and I have Megan Racing guages.
