Need advise on car audio

I've got the pioneer dvd/tv 7" screen in front and a 6.5" flip down that replaced the dome light for the rear, and a pioneer's tv tuner. I've decided to go all JL Audio just because the are givivg me 70% off list price. I was thinking of going with 2 JL 13.5 W7 subs put in fiberglass hooked up to 2 JL 1000/1 amps. Do you guys think thats an over kill. My brother has a similar set up with 2 W7 12's and 2 500/1 in his 02 BMW 330 and his car is way loud already but I want to be just a little louder. What do you guys think??

Well if youwant it to be louder you wouldnt need the bigger subs all you have to do is hook up more power to them. In my opinion i wouldnt need that much boom unless i was entering into a comp. but its your hearing.

One 10" sub amped is plenty IMO. Amp it with enough juice, and it will sound great. Too many people overdo their systems these days.

And FYI, yours tweeters will KILL your hearing long before the bass will.

More FYI. If hearing loss continues the next 25 years the way it has the past 25 years, over 50% of all adult American's will be D E A F. So turn it down, cool-guy.

I strongly recommend that you do not under any circumstances try and fit 2 13W7s into the trunk of the lancer; because it will suck ***. 1 13 is plenty at most 2 12W7s properly powered.

that is true, but while browsing on the a&s forum i RARELY see anyone asking what tweeters to get. people are so freakin conserned with bass that they forget the rest of the music.

if you want my opinion, it's overkill.

Loud is cool, as long as it is clear. I'd much rather have a quieter quality system then a loud, overly bassy, too much mid sounding system. A balanced system actually sounds best. I like my bass, but I listen to Metal so I used lose my hi's and high mids when I turned it up (the bass covered them). Sounded muddy, until I learned how to tune my system.

i say go for broke, its on the LAPD. I think that is a good idea. I have an alpine iva-801 and 2 alpine tmx-780 flip down screens in mine. I have the Boston Acoustic 6.53 pro series that handle 500W and i am gonna use 2 12" W7's on amp(undecided)

yeah, nobody seems to care about the tweeters enough. most systems sound like crap anyway, because they are just loud and overly bassy. in a way, bass is bass, so most subs will sound about the same. tweeters on the other hand, should MOST DEFINITELY be listened to first. some will sound shrill, others dull. my preferences are:

1. titanium - excellent reproduction of acoustic guitar (which i love) as well as about everything else. titanium is extremely strong, yet still flexible enough to give you a smooth response
2. soft/silk dome - also extremely good sound quality, and not too bright. very smooth response curve.

i'm not a fan of most ceramic or "hard dome" tweeters. some film-type tweeters actually sound quite nice, such as pioneer's and kenwood's.

you can't beat compression horns. if you ever get a chance, listen to a set of image dynamics compression drivers. you will never hear music recreated so accurately, clearly, and loudly.

The MB quart 6.5" Q series component set sounds AMAZING in my evo - i have it attenuated -3db on the tweets

I am running a mcintosh mc404m bi-ampped on them and it really is sounding clean and accurate

I am going to try a Kicker solobaric 8 " sub in the spare tire well - - I do NOT want a lot of booming rattling bass - - just a bit of fill in on the low frequencies to add to what i have already - - I hear this sub in my buddies Viper - it was very accurate and natural sounding - - what i liked best about it is the very small box size needed and the lighter weight of the 8 ' woofer - both of which save a LOT of weight over the bigger 10 and 12 " woofers - - don't forget thye EVO is a proformance car - we want to keep the weight to a bear minimum

you want each 13 w7 run by a 1000 watt amp? I have 1 10" w7 powered by 1 1000 watt amp.

if your going to go 13... and I really don't know if 2 13s will fit in our trunks... get at least 2 1000 per sub. they can handle it.
how are you going to keep those cool by the way? going to put fans in your trunk? a seperate ac system for it? I know my system over heats after about hour of listening to semi-high levels. and if there was more amps... more heat.

one of my friends that does the sound off comps has 2 13 w7's and running 8000 watts to them (4k each) I think he's like 13th in his class right now.
