Bars in trunk

Have you guys seen the 2 bars going across in the trunk. Where the rear speakers are.

Does anybody know what they are for?

they are the trunk lid torsion bars.

They are what provide the "spring" in the stock trunk lid...

yes you can remove them, but your trunk will not have tension on it so it will not pop open and will not have any force against it to stay fully open if there is wind or anything that might force the lid down suddenly

Ohh ok. I shaved my trunk key hole, so If I open it from pulling the lever next to the drivers seat, it wont open because of the "springs it needs"?

Yup....

But it won't always pop up anyways. but it does spring the latch mechanism loose at times so you can just popit up w/ by putting your fingers at the endge near the bumper and lift.

Why It may not be a concerned for you and most other people, but you'd just be adding more weight to your car I'd assume. Sure it's not 2lbs that will make a huge difference, but if we start putting 2 and 2 togheter we end up with a much bigger number when we're done counting.

IMO, just keep the "not working so well" bars and add weight somewhere else.

If the "shocks" are actually lighter than the bars, then forget what I just wrote and get them

I've replaced mine, the shock is about 1/10 the weight of the trunk lid, but what I'd suggest is that you add a shock on each side. a 22" shock works perfectly and allows the trunk lid to close properly. I have a 24" in now, because I blew out the first 22" (there was only one there, which is why I suggest 2) and it's a little too long.

anchor it beside the wheel well, and attatch it at the oval hole in the bars that are bolted to the trunk lid.. here's a pic

I like that. So the Shock just keep pushing the trunk up. So when it releases the trunk, the shock will stretch out and open the trunk?

well. these pop it quite a bit. then you lift it up and the shocks grab and pull rest of the way.... So, basically yes. lol

i definitely overlooked that how to nice write up, but the website says for fiberglass and cf, do you think the stock trunk would be too heavy?

^ Yes it might be too heavy... to keep it 1/2 way open. But out trunks when opened fully sits at a 90 degree angle, so possibilities of it coming down, are slim. nless there's a gust of wind.

yeh. may be to heavy to actually lift the trunk but I bet it would keep it open. The shocks are pretty strong.. It was tough to compress them to get them on the brackets. haha... You could e-mail them and ask them what the shocks are rated for. They might be able to tell yeh. I bet they would work fine.

I doubt it would come down once its up. unless you pull on it.. But I cant say this 100% positive. im assuming. haha
