Question does this sound right?

I have 2 12" MTX subs. There a few years old, but still work perfectly. I wrote to MTX to inquire about the cubic space that they require for a custom box. Someone wrote me back and said that I need 2 cubic feet per sub. Does that number sound just a little big to anyone besides me? That would mean that I need to make one hell of an enclosure for these things. Does this sound wrong to anyone?

Really depends on the sub. If they were designed for a large enclosure, 2cu per isn't that bad at all.

Which model of sub are they, and was that the reccomended enclosure for a sealed or ported box?

they are MTX Blue Thunders. one guy at MTX told me that for a sealed enclosure that i should use 2cu, but he really didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about. that is why i decided to try here with you guys.

2 cu. is more than likely for a ported enclosure. usually 0.8 to 1.1 cu. is about perfect for just about any 12" sub in a sealed enclosure

mtx blue thunder....i think that's what i have. they are older model right?

my enclosure can't be more than 0.5 cubic feet. it's a 10" though, but still. i got it for free from a friend, can't beat that. does a decent job of hitting the notes.

i'd say you're probably fine with 1cu sealed box. do a google search, look around and see if you can find more info.

hey cup, they are an older model, and i got them for free as well. i had them in a bandpass in my truck which sounded fine for where it was. but i was told that sealed sounds the best in the lancer.

sealed sounds best in any car. unless you are a competition and really know what you're doing, bandpass sounds like crap.

you could probably get away with 2 cubic feet total for the 2 subs, that's probably what that guy meant anyway.

yea, my guess is that it's around 1 cu per sub and since u have two, that'll make it 2 cu.
