Amps, Crossovers and Components oh my!
Amps, Crossovers and Components oh my!
Ok, Anyone that has seen my car knows that I've got a lot of sound 10 speakers and 2 subs. Well, I had to get rid of 2 pairs of speakers. I'm down to 6. It's just an average joe blow setup. All Mb's, rear is coaxial and front is a component setup. Well. My amp went dead, I went and got a new one. Ever since then My driver side components keep clipping out and getting scratchy. At times my drivers side front components sounds like they are under water. It's driving me nuts. I have an aol alpine 7894 laying around, it has an internal 240 watt amp. Any ideas if the HU can push the speakers for adequate sound quality. I've a feeling it's my amp going to **** that is making the front set sound like that. cause if I switch the left and right inputs, the passenger side does it. I'm taking all but 1 sub out and just getting a 500.1 monoblock for it. CupOZ, your input is respected adn wanted. I can get part #'s if you guys would like. Keep in mind that these are the high end MB Quart's. not the cheap ones. I wanta good sound, but really can't go drop 500+ on another amp.
On a side note, does anyone else have power problems? I was running about 1500 watts total and my headlights dimmed soo much that they pretty much went out. Anyone got a good source for a 200 alternator? I'm thinking I need to install the CAP and gelcell battery again too.

sounds like a couple possibilities, most likely there is a problem internally with the left channel of the amp. if it's under warranty get it fixed. if it's not, don't know what to tell you.
as for power, i'd say you shouldn't need a new alternator, but one wouldn't hurt. put a cap in, turn the gain down a little bit, and run your system a little lower volume. see if it's still an issue, if it is then you need to get a larger alternator.

i'm running my components off of deck power for now as well and they sound great. that's the good thing about an alpine deck, they have the best sound quality there is. so you can crank them and it's still clean sound.
as for the sound problem, you can try a couple things to diagnose the problem. first try a new set of rca's, by pulling your deck and loosely running a set through the car for test purposes. the reason i say this is because you said you switched the inputs (rca's) and that made the sound problem change sides of the car. therefore if it was an amp problem then the muffled sound would stay on the left since the left output is still attached to the left speaker. unless of course you meant to say that you switched the outputs (speaker line out), in which case still try the new rca's to narrow the problem down. you might have blown the output ic on your deck as well. if this is the case then the new rca's won't do anything to help and the sound will change sides by switching the amp inputs. hope this helps

Well, I already switched HU's (my other alpine is a dead head) I'll try switching the RCA cables. Never thought of that, and I meant the speaker line out, sorry. I'm a tool sometimes. Thanks Dr Crash / Cup. I'll keep you guys posted
