Must read for all those running a system
If you haven't upgraded your alternator yet, you should. Your system will sound better because you'll have constant power to your amps. It will be cleaner power which will be clearer sound.
Check this out...group buy on an alternator...

And for all the reason why you should get an upgraded alternator...
Here are some selections from an article on audio system power design. The whole article can be found here:

Depending on your car's factory electrical system, you may not have enough power to run your aftermarket stereo system. You probably do unless you have a multi-megawatt system or an extremely tiny alternator. Generally systems under 500 watts will not need an upgrade.

If one battery is good then two must be better. Right? Wrong. Remember that the function of a battery is to start the vehicle and to provide power when the vehicle is not running. The only thing a second battery will help you with is "parking lot" listening time. Basically it will provide you the additional capacity to run your stereo longer without starting the vehicle. After the vehicle is started the second battery becomes another load on an already overworked alternator.

you may need to upgrade your alternator. Doing so will give you more juice to run all of your electrical components, including your stereo system, without looking to the battery for help. The problem is your alternator is undersized for your new electrical requirements and has to look to the battery to provide the extra power, resulting in shortened battery life.
Upgrading your alternator will also allow you to run a smaller battery with higher output stereo systems.

We just confirmed with Iraggi that the group buy is only for Evo alternators. Anyone who wants to start a thread for a group buy on Lancer or Ralliart alternators could do so if they contact Dominick.
Sorry if this caused any confusion.

HO alternator ... for Non-Evo and non-Ralliarts
Now I could be wrong and missed something in my conversations with people... but after some further research, found that the alt I could find (listed here at EVM and the ebay ad alike) may say 180 but at idle..they still put out only about 80-90. Which isn't any better than what we have already.
Finally stumbled on a shop that will order a brand new one, do the work and indicated that their setup will put out around 140 @ idle and 180 @ 2000 rpms. Completly spec'd, computer compatible, and safe to use with no additional modifications to our vehicles. Albiet, it might be a good idea to upgrade your power wires and ground wires (big 3 and grounding kit) and while your at it... pickup a better battery if you don't have one already. I recommend either an Optima or a Kinetik.
Whats the catch... $650.00 out the door and delivered by UPS. Which when I looked at other high-end HO alternators .. is right in the price range. Bottom line, I think its the old adage.. you get what you pay for.
Here is the contact info... let me know if they tell you any differently. Within about 2 days of posting my question online, I got a call back from Tom of Kaestner Auto, and asked a number of questions and he was very helpful. I asked if they could rebuild mine if I sent it, and was told they buy one brand new so that they are not working with any pre-existing conditions. Fair enough I think.. I couldn't even get that out of anyone else locally. Happy to repair, but nobody wanted to rebuild.
I will most likely get my alternator from them. I contacted a variety of other companies online, and theirs was the only one that responded to be quest for an HO alternator for the Lancer...
I don't know what type of group buy they would be interested in... I could ask and see what they would say if anyone is interested...

P.S. Although somewhat unrelated..did a search on google for their shop and found a blip that is a customer testimonial to the good service they provide. Just do a search on the page for Kaestner and you will see an interesting story of a boat out in the middle of the ocean and no way to go anywhere... click here
