Sub Help
So i have two 12inch Sony Xlod subs and i took them out of my car and put them back in and now one of them wont work. i checked all the wires and there all connected, i even took them off and re-connected them. if anyone could tell me what to check or maybe replace to get my sub to work that would be a huge help
thanks
thanks
Do you have a multimeter?
Check what the resistance (Ohms) you get on a multimeter.
Do a visual inspection. Look between the basket towards the center of speaker and see if the tinsle leads are broken or ripped out. Sometimes they are disconnected from the terminal posts or right at the voice coil.
What model #s of subs and amp do you have? and how do you have it wired up (postive goes to where, negative goes to where)?
Are you running the subs stereo? Two pairs of speaker wire from the sub box to the amp or are you bridging the subs?
When you pulled the subs out of the car... did you leave the sub wire exposed with the car/amp on? This could have fried a channel on your amp.
Hope this helps,
Nick

^^^ wow i have no idea what that means lol
none of it
i dont have a multimeter
i wired it very simple because im not into wiring or making everything perfect
i ran the subs to the battery and to the headunit and ground
when i took it out i taped up the ends of the wires with electrical tape because i was going to sell the subs but changed my mind

Ok... LOL... sorry... let me try to re-explain this a little easier.
On each sub is there one positive and one negative or are there two?
If you look at the back of the sub, the cage or metal part is called a "basket". Look between the openings of the basket you'll see the suspension of the speaker. it's a ribbed type of material. Usually black or yellow or orange in color. This is called a spider. In the spider is the terminal lead wire that is woven through it.
Look at all these pieces and see if there are any rips in the spider, tears in the terminal/tinsel leads or if they are completely disconnected.
If everything looks good... it has to be something with wiring or on the amplifier side.
Put the positive and negative of the one sub that's not working onto a drill battery and see if the sub moves. That will at least tell you if the connection from the terminals on the basket to the actual voice coil work.

Nick

that makes sence
since the subs are enclosed i dont think any of the wires or spiders on that back of the sub are ripped or anything because i checked them and they all looked normal so i will try to attach the sub wires to a drill battery to check it
