Adding 6x9's to stereo

I want to add a pair of 6x9's to run off the hu that will face out the trunk. I don't need to have them running all the time, so should i have a switch that selects either the rears or the 6x9's?

How can i do this safely cause i reeeeally dont wanna screw up any speakers or the hu. I was thinking i could just add a toggle switch?? If this is the way to go, which wire do you block with the switch, + or -

You can do this i think... If this will be connected to an amp and not to your headunit, then you can connect the toggle switch to the amp and just turn it off from thurr... I think the speakers should turn off too.. Not sure tho.. Get more opinions.....

easy get a 6-pin switch, wire the negative leads from both sides (r and L) one on each then run both negative from 6x9's to top leads and run positive wire normally and "t" it with the rear speaker positive then into hu
run the neg. from the rear speakers in to the other 2 terminals on the switch.
be sure to run the negatives from the 6x9's to the same terminal pair (Top or bottom)
and the rears to the opposite poles.
then just throw the switch to go from rears to trunk.
If you need more info pm me
Cam L poles switch R poles

L (-) from HU | | R (-)from HU

Is this setup right? Would it be better to have two switches, then you could switch off positive and negative or is this ok? I just wanna make sure before I screw up anything.

if you wanted you could have two switches but that should be just fine.
when i typed that out it looked better ... oh well
If you go with two switches put one speaker on each switch. dont go bothe negatives on one or you are just defeating the purpose.

with any luck this will look better. i would just draw it but i dont know how to post a pic or anything yet.
the middle things are the poles on the switch looking at it from the back.

no problem! you should have seen the wild setup i had to run my interiors/ third brake light/ cab light /sex lights in my pickup
Holy-Complicated Batman!
i ended up with three 6-point switches wired together and two pages of hand drawn diagrams and notes!
but it all worked when i was done.
