Pioneer plastic trimming

Pioneer headunits come with a plastic surround trimming. I just installed my HU today and can't seem to get the trimming to fit right, so I just left it off. Did anyone find a solution to this?

there are metal tabs on the radio and they have to be on the outside of the dash panel or the trim wont fit. I know this is kinda vague but I dont know how else to explain it

Dude Pioneers plastic trim ring fits on a certain way. If it didn't fit, flip it over, it should snap right on. You must make sure that deck has snapped into sleeve properly also. If you installed in a lancer though, you don't need sleeve. Thus the only problem I can see is you may have deck mounted too far in. So, maybe mount deck further out so trim ring can snap on properly.

I think I worded that wrongly. The trim fits finely on the headunit, but I can't seem to line up the railings right to make the dash trim fit properly over/behind the headunit trim. Here's a pic of the way I have it set up right now:

Here's the headunit trim that can't simply pop back on with the dash trimming fitted over it.

The trim ring is designed for cars that do not have ISO mounting. The radio is installed correctly. The trim plate is removable for cars like ours. Unfortunately, Mitsu has slightly more of a larger opening than most other ISO mounted cars. The radio has about an 1/8 gap around all sides. You can go to the car stereo shop and buy trim rings to fit around the radio to cover the gaps.

Well decibel, you really did beat me to it as my installer did give me the same explanation. I have the same exact stereo (as far as eyeballing it goes) as Thoe so I guess posting my pics won't exactly help.

Ah, ok. It looks like a half-*** fit job at this point, the way it is now. Pjal84, mine's the Pioneer 5500mp, if you were wondering.

I had the same problem with my Kenwood. A few spacers on every bolt fixed the problem

Had the same problem...

You need to redrill the brackets to move the pioneer forward about a 1/4"

Once you do that... plastic goes on great.

Later.

Here is a drawing of it since I don't have a pioneer deck anymore (I think I used the same holes with my alpine though).

Basically you are drilling new holes a little farther forward on the bracket... about 1/4" total forward movement.. just a little bridge of material in the way.

Had the same problem with my headunit (JVC K-333).

I found that the trim ring fit perfectly if you installed the cd changer kit, but not in the upper DIN slot.
