Kicker kx350.2 enough for a L7 12"

hey all,

Just wondering, i just purchased a new 12" L7 and was wondering about powering it. In my old car I used to have 2 10" cerwin HED DVC's powered by a Kicker KX350.2 and it pounded. While piecing my new system I decided to save trunk space to go with 1 L7. I'm wondering if my amp will be sufficient to power my new L7. At 12 volts the amp will run 275w rms bridged at 4 ohms I know I would not be using the sub to its full potential but is it enough so it sounds good? Do you think I would be in danger of burning up my amp?

The better thing would be to buy a new amp, but well I'm trying to save a little money with my old amp.

Any advice appreciated

it will definitly power it but you will be running the risk of damaging your sub with such little amount of power. these are rated at like 750 if im not mistaken 275 isnt enough to power it propley.

Wrong - It will give the sub adequate power but I would adjust the gain, LPF, and Bass Boost so the amp will not clip, and so that it will not distort and then possibly damage the sub. There is nothing wrong putting that much power to that sub.

as long as the sub is wired at 4 ohms, you will be fine. hopefully you bought the dual-2 ohm sub, because that is the only option to get a single sub to 4 ohms. but why did you waste your money on that sub if you are only using 350 watts???? you can get a 600 watt RMS Hifonics sub for 100 bucks on sonicelecronix.com

Yup, bought dual 2 ohm, I do know at least that much. I plan on upgrading my amp in the future and to me it was more practical to upgrade sub first. I wanted to go with a 1 Sub setup to save space and don't have the money to upgrade all at once. Once i have the money Ill probably by a JL or Alpine Mono block 600.1 or higher depending on whats available and what on sale etc...

Weird thing i noticed today when i received my sub. When you rotated the sub say 180 degrees it sounds like something is in the sub itself rattling around in there. the last thing i want to do it blow the voice coil out of a $250 sub due to a small piece of broken plastic or something. I'll probably call Kicker tomorrow and see what they say.

Could have got it cheaper but not from an authorized dealer on amazon. I wanted the warranty to be honored if something happened. Nice find though

lol if you worked at circuit city you could get 2 12" L7's and an enclosure and matching amp for $400, that was before we started going out of business

personally, I love their amps. my Brutus put out constant power for the longest car trips I made, never overheating or anything. they aren't CEA-2006 compliant, which means they dont really put out what they say, but they are definitely solid amps, and worth every penny. I should have gotten the 2000 watt Brutus, but I only had the 1600 watt one. your sub is 750 wats RMS, and actually the reason i love Kicker so much, is they underestimate their subs. im sure those subs could take at least 800 or even 850 watts RMS all day every day. My advice, if you go hifonics, get a BXI 2610D, or equivalent model (earlier year version). it says 850 RMS at 4 ohms, so it may put out 750 - 800 wats RMS for REAL, which would be perfect for that sub. you could also get a TXI7508 which is 750 watts RMS at 1 ohm. that would probably be your best bet, seeing as it could be wired at 1 ohm.

well I called kicker about what i was hearing and the told me it happens from time to time with manufacturing. Sometime there is excess glue/sealant on the cone that breaks off during testing and to shake it upside down until it comes out. Made me feel stupid

Next Question for you all. I have made my own boxes for all my various systems over the years and have always went with sealed boxes. from what im reading L7's love ported. The thing is I HATE PORTED. They all have a hollow sound that i don't like form my experience. But then again I may have not heard a properly ported box. What would you all suggest?

Edit: Does anyone know or have a wiring diagram of the stock Amplifier??? Been googling for ever but can only find diagram of head unit. I have a New Pioneer avic 900bt and would like to just tap the speaker wire coming from the amp instead of running all new wires

ported or sealed depends on the type of music you will be listening to...so tell us that first!

so youre saying you have the S&S package? the harness for an 08+ lancer should work, but go to a local shop to check.
