Help with finding a High Output Alternator
Hi, I own a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES. I want to install a new audio system in my car. Although the system I would like to get requires almost double the amps that my current alternator produces. I have a 90A alternator and I am in need of a 160A alternator or something around 160A+. I cant seem to find one and I was hoping somebody would be able to help me out. It would be greatly appreciated!
You can get a 140amp one from Maniac Electric Motors or something, a quick Google search will yield this result.
I own one and I can say it works great and gives a LOT of power. You will need to upgrade your wiring and fuses.

But yea I'm running a 1000watt kenwood amp, optima yellow top and big 3 (4g) and I have my voltage meter running off my amp and when I have the bass even decently up I start running like 13v when it hits compared to the 14.2-3 I run when the radio is off I am curious as to what voltage you need to be at when it starts pulling from the battery? I've had it pumping on certain songs and it will be like 12.9-7 for the bass hit then up

would putting a high output alternator like the 140 amp be ok even if not running a big system? im not the best with cars still in a learning phase ( especially with this car ). so would it be safe and help with hp/tq? thanks for any help..
BTW I purchased the 180amp alternator for $200 so I will report back how it is.. Has a 1 year warranty etc and $200 shipped is awesome deal

Please keep in mind if you replace your alternator with a high output one you will need to replace the fuse that goes from alternator to the battery with a larger one to suit your needs. I am sure the stock one is only like 100amps
And that is a great deal for that 180 amp alternator, wish those were around when I purchased my 140 amp for $225ish a few years back

If you guys ever install an alternator with over 240A like me, It's best if you do the BIG "4". The big 4 consists of the following
0 or 00 Gauge Alternator to Battery Positive
0 or 00 Gauge Engine block to chassis
0 or 00 Gauge Battery negative to chassis
0 or 00 Gauge Battery negative to engine ground.
The fuse should be changed to a fuse at least 10A more than the alternator's output. I have a 350A alt and have a 400A fuse (I have 3 batteries in my Lancer along with two capacitors)

I don't suppose you have any photos or a video of your battery&cap setup? And, out of curiousity... what are you powering with THAT much raw Electrical power??

I bought it from ExcessiveAmperage about a year ago when I first got the car, it ran me $400 but it's worth it IMO. I have a lot going on in my car that I need over 300A
I will take a video soon and post it up, you aren't the first to ask
And I have 3 Amps, Neon Lights, 5 TV screens, 1 17" HDTV, and I had a 1/2HP compressor when my car had air bag suspension. Also sense I work in construction I have a 3000Watt power invertor built into the car so I can charge my Dewalt batteries and use some power tools when the electricity still hasn't been installed in the apartement buildings, or when I go to work in ranches and don't have any power outlets. And I don't know how I achive that

To the OP...what amplifier are you planning on running? A Kenwood "1000W" amplifier probably has like 60 amps worth of onboard fusing... no way will you need anywhere near 160 to power it.
Simon.. nothing wrong with running a bigger alternator but it certainly won't do anything for hp/torque... you'll actually lose some. It takes power to make power. You'll be using more of the engine's power to generate electricity.
Texas Crazy OZ you should definitely post pics. Always like to see another Lancer with a big system.
