what amp to run with my alpine component system?
Here's my setup in which I need to get an amp for.
Component 2-way Speaker System:
Four 6.5" Alpine Type R Mid-range Speaker (SPR-176A)
Four 2.5" Alpine Type R Tweeters (SPR-176A)
I have these running through two crossovers (came with component system),with two 6.5" and two 2.5" per crossover. As of now, these are hooked up and are being powered on an Apline CD-Receiver CDA-7894.
These are the specifications of the "component system" as stated in the manual:
Power Handling: 200 watts peak
Power Handling: 50 watts RMS
Frequency Response: 40Hz-30kHz
Sensitivity: 86dB/W(1m)
Impedance: 4 ohms
Recommended Aplification: up to 50 watts RMS, per channel
I know enough about audio and speakers to get myself into trouble .. but I'm not quite sure as to exactly what to be looking for here.
I'm assuming that because I have two crossovers, I have two channels. Yes? Does this mean I want a 2 channel amp? Or 4?
I am looking to up the sound level on the component system and mainly make the 6.5" speakers louder. I'm not too worried about making the tweeters lounder.
Can any one recommend an amplifier in which I can use for this, or any general recommendations on what I can use to maximize the power of these speakers?
Thanks!
steve
edit: whats the difference between 200 watts and 50 watts RMS?

manufactures have a way of tweaking the peak number to be larger than what they actually should report. but the RMS value is always a safe bet to go by. so basically, if you have speakers that can handle 50W RMS @4ohms, you should match it with an amp that can output 50W RMS @4ohms.
and usually it's safer to put MORE power to speakers (i.e. get an amp that can output 75W @4ohms) and turn the gain down slightly, giving you a lot more headroom before the amp starts to clip the signal and distort. if you underpower speakers and try to turn the volume up louder, you clip the signal and run the risk of damaging the speaker. it's probably a lot easier to damage a speaker by putting too little power rather than too much power.
at the very least it'll sound like ****.

thanks cup! thats what I'm talking about!
