amp help

i have a ppi 5 ch amp probably 5+ years old and i have 4 jl coaxial speakers all the way around and a jl power wedge (2 tens final impedence is 4 ohms) just got it installed worked great for a while then the subs just stopped working(but everything else sounded great just no sub)....but then they worked again this morning but stoped again shortly after

i chked the impedence of the speakers to make sure it was 4omhs and it was ...i called the ppl that did the install and basically he thinks its the amp even though its strange for one channel to be out like that.....i also hooked up another 4ohm speaker to the amp and it had like a hiss type static sound and when i listened closely to the jl's i would here the same thing.....guy said they would have to take a look at it....free of charge of co urse but its an hour away (friend of family...good deal) but i was there yesterday so is there anything i can check out my self for f urther diagnosis? thankss

sounds like your amp died bro probably a bad sound filter or crossover internally. not a mosfet or anything like that is why one channel would die.

today the back speakers stop workin well actually they work if the fad isnt set all the way to rear but if it is they dont work they just kinda have a hissing type noise same as the sub was having......could the amp over heating have anything to do with it? well im not sure if it overheat but it was rather hot....it is screwed onto the sub box and its sandwhiched b/w the sub and back of back seat....doesnt seem like the best place for it to be to me......well im bringin it to morow to get it chekced out any one got any input?

now it sounds liek you possibly have a screw through your rca cables or they might be pinched. check the path theyre run through either that or your amps just diein. sorry bro hope its the cables and not the amp.

brought car in today guy checked it out and problem was one the adjustments on the amp....the qbass.... and something about since the amp had been sittting around for over a year dust got into where u adjust it so he just got the dust out re adjusted and its working fine now and another thing was that on my head unit(clarion dont know model off hand) there is a z-enhancer or somthing and he said i shouldnt use it cause it puts too much strain on the speakers or something i dont know.....but none the less its working well now loud and clean...
