Need Stereo system recommendations...

I want crisp, HARD bass in a package that is lightweight and as small as possible. i dont mind it being expensive if it KICKS ***.

my version of hitting hard is when you start feeling your nostril hairs vibrate. I would never listen to it that loud constantly, but if the setup can do that with a bass CD, it will be perfect for music that doesn't have much bass gain in the recording (classic rock, for instance).

im curious what components to use and to best lay them out. ill probably have a shop do the install, but id like an idea of what works and where to start. i haven't been into stereo stuff for years so i dont know what's good and what's not any more.

im pretty set on an alpine deck, but from there i dunno.

would a single 10" in a sealed box be enough if the quality was there and I used an overkill amp?

would it be better to run 2 10's or one 12 ?

I have these 2 twelves, but the big, kickass one is specifically made for a HUGE ported box (per the info that came with the speaker).

thanks for any and all suggestions!!

here's the badass speaker.... the only thing that sucks is that it's a single voice coil.

I have 2 alpine type r's 12 inch
They hit hard and have awesome quality
They take 300 RMS and 1000 peak and my amp is only giving them 200 each and it still hurts to turn them up all the way.
No matter what speaker you get, i would recomend a sealed box because they hit much more crisp and clean.
Alpine makes very nice decks so i would say stick with it.
I am also using my stock speakers with my pioneer deck.
I turned on high pass filter, which makes the speakers not output anything under 125hz so they can be turned up loud and sound great.
The only thing i dont like about my system is the damn ratles!!
And the box is heavy and makes the car a little lower in the back, i would like to get a custom fiberglass setup for my trunk to fix that.

static, thanks for your feedback. i definitely want to get a deck with a crossover.

Does your setup hit hard down low or up high in the bass spectrum? that fosgate pictured above was in a large ported box and it hit HARD down low but not that well up top. it also had a slow attack so some techno kickdrums would actually sound offbeat. Those are things I'm trying to avoid this time, but keep the same slam factor, save weight, etc...

I'd like to stick with a single or even two tens because I don't want my car to sag. I'm considering removing the spare and jack and keeping fix-a-flat in there inside a styrofoam insert im considering fabbing (to support the trunk's floor piece.

I would rather put in a higher output amp and really drive a quality 10 or pair of them hard if possible. I think I would get a more balanced bass spectrum too, but I'm not sure, so that's why I'm asking others for their feedback.

My bass setup is a single 12" Kicker CompVR in a 1.3c.f. sealed box driven by a Kicker DX350 amp (rated at 350rms, spec sheet from Kicker says 381rms). With the gain turned LESS than half of the way up, you can feel it in your body and it will make rattles you never knew you had in your car appear. I've never turned the gain up more than what it is but I imagine it would have the bass you are looking for (too much for my tastes though). The sub was ~$80 and the amp was ~$150.

I'd stick with a single 10" or 12" sub to save space. Any quality sub getting good power should satisfy your tastes. I've heard Kicker L7's getting ~500rms hit pretty hard.

Thanks Powder!

BTW - which way does your sub point in relation to the car?

I keep the rear seat down and have the sub facing towards the front of the car. It sounds cleaner this way to me. Overall bass is about the same with the seat up or down but with it up, it sounds muffled a bit.

Plus, with it down, you can glance back every once in a while during a good song and watch the sub hit (looks cool). Maybe I'm just wierd like that.

Me too. In addition to what I have listed above, I replaced my stock speakers with some 6-3/4's and have an amp pushing 60rms to each. Sounds really good. The way I have my bass set, it all matches up great and is not overpowering at all.

im not wanting all-out bass either, but you must run something capable of BIG boom with boom music to have it sound adequate for something like Led Zeppelin II.
