Will you help me pick my audio setup?

I mostly listen to punk so I dont need a ton of bass but I would like a decent amount cause I listen to a little techno.

I would either like a MP3 headunit or plain CD headunit. Hopefully spending around $100 for it, maybe a little more if I have to for the MP3 HU.

For the speakers I would like to spend about $50/pair.

I have a 500W Mobile Authority amp however I am willing to sell it along with some other stuff to get a better one if you think that would be better.

Currently I have the stock head unit and speakers.

With the sub though I would have to get a box + wouldnt I need 2 amps then?

I would perfer to have the speakers output enoguh bass so I dont need subs.

I also have 2 12" rockford fosgate subs in a sealed box however I dont really want to use them cause I dont think I need that much bass. I would rather sell them and use that money for the speakers, HU, or amp.

if you're just going for a HU and speakers, without any amps and subs, go pioneer or kenwood. personally, i think you'll get better bass response from the pioneers, and the kenwood's highs might be a little too bright (sharp) during punk music (aka your ears will bleed).

an mp3 HU is a nice feature, but honestly, i rarely use mine. i'd go with a good pioneer HU and i know you can find quality pioneer speakers for around 50 bucks.

check out www.pricegrabber.com for the best prices. also www.ikesound.com, www.mmxpress.com, www.hypaudio.com to name a few.

Im not against an amp for the speakers but id like to know which if I am gonna get one.

I have always liked Pioneer HU, and the reason I wanted to get the MP3 one is cause I need to burn a lot of music to CDs and would need much fewer CDs if I were doing them all in MP3. However it would prob be cheaper to get a regular Pioneer HU and the CDs than a MP3 HU.

Any suggestions on good 3 way speakers?

pioneer makes a good 4-way that you can get for i think around 60 from hypaudio.com i think its the ts-a1795 but don't quote me on that. look for oversized 6 1/2 (6 3/4 or 7) on crutchfield, and search with that. i have them in my car now, and they sound great.

if you want more bass kick, you won't get way too much when replacing the speakers. you'll get better highs, but the bass won't necessarily be that much louder (if louder at all). out of all honesty, i'd say go with a HU (MP3 is nice, but just like purecoda, i rarely use the MP3 feature eventhough i was so psyched about it when i first got it), 4 new speakers, the pioneers would be fine. but, i'd honestly recommend getting a 10 inch sub and amp. you wouldn't need an amp for the highs (but, they'd sound better with one) and you can just get a smaller sub amp for whatever kind of sub you get.

the only prob with amps and subs is money, which it sounds like he's tight on. all in all i'd say:

new hu and 4 new speakers (all pioneer) = about 300 bucks if he shops around
ne hu, 4 new speakers, 2 channel amp, sub, sub box, wiring kit = about 500-600

Yea tight on money is an understatement. If I could get 200 for my sub setup I could take that money and get some speakers and a HU prob then I could always save up for the sub and amp if I am not satisfied with the bass that I am getting.
