Speaker Recommendations
I am looking for a nice clean sound from an Alpine 9856. I primarily listen to Classic Rock, but also listen to Rap, Metal, Alternative, and Classical. At home I have Boston Acoustics in a 7.1 setup and like the sound a lot, so I have considered BA for the car.
Do you guys have recommendations for clean, smooth speakers run off the deck? Should I go with 6.5 comps front and coax rear? I would love a sub, but dont want to spend the money, add the weight, or lose the trunk space. I have been reading about CDT, eD, JL, and others, but would like to hear from you. Thanks

I'd assume you love your BS home entertain system and love it's sound quality... So why not their car speakers? They're awesome, but heavy on the price. But you can't go wrong with them or MB Quart.
Pillar mounted tweeters have certain higher frequencies amplified because of reflection off the glass and hard dash top. Speakers with metal domes usually have more output at the upper range of frequency response so this amplifies the effect. Highs can sound lispy, shrilland won't be balanced to the output of the mid. Think fingernails on a chalkboard.
I also do not recommend just adding tweeters to a set of mids. The passive crossover is designed for a set of speakers and matches the frequency response and level of a component set. It is a very important part of the performance and should be matched correctly to the system. This is why most "name brands" are only average, they put very little into the crossover design and don't optimize the crossover for each set. They build a single version for all component systems whether a 4,5.25 or 6.5" set.

OK so some good options -- thanks....
I think for now, I will install the deck with the stock speakers. If I feel like I need / want more then I will likely go with an AMP and separates up front and maybe a small sub in the trunk (leave the rears stock?)...
I have been considering eD separates (6000s V2) http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=49
for $125 they appear to be a great deal -- has anyone heard these or thoughts on eD?
Also was thinking about their small SQ10 sub in a .3cu ft box http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...roducts_id=106
Finally, recommendations on a good 4 channel amp -- fronts and bridged for sub that won't cost a ton (~$250 range) -- would eD be a good choice as well?
One last ask -- any recommended installation / fab shops in the NOVA area??? Thanks a ton!

I'm running BA 6.5's in my front doors, and rear deck, w/ a 12" BA Generator series in a sealed box in the trunk. I keep the amp (BA GT Series) set moderately, because i don't want a massive amount of bass, just a clean sound, and that setup sounds awesome. BA will cost more, but like they say, you get what you pay for...
I have Polk 6 1/2 separates in the front of my truck and polk 5x7's in the rear with a polk 10" sub all powered with a 2 MTX amps and it sounds great!! I have had infinity, they are too bright for me. same with kicker speakers, they are bright. MTX subs are good (depending on the model), but again, I am not a fan of the speakers.
anyway, I highly reccomend Polk Audio speakers

I've heard nothing but good sounds from Alpine speakers, as well as Infinity. Alpine subs in particular I find amazing. If you can afford a full Alpine setup, I'd go with that. Secondly, I'd go with the Infinities. Thirdly would be Polk Audio.
I had Alpine type R speakers and subs in my old RSX. like newfoundlancer said, if you can afford it, its definitely worth it, but, in order to use the speakers to their potential, you have to amp them, and Type R subs hit so hard that they need a large amp to power them which also bumps the price.
