making a box
making a box
ok i have 2 audiobahn AW1206Q's and i want to make a custom box( will post pics when done its gonna be phatty) but need to get specs for building a box for these subs. like volume a stuf but i cant find any audiobahn doesnt even have any. Could someone help???? thanks.
Are you looking to make a sealed box, vented box, bandpass box? Gimme some specifics, and I'll help you out. Also, what VC config are the 1206Q's? (ohm ratings, numer of voice coils) And what are your maxium measurements of the box?
they operate at 2 or 4 ohm 1,100 watts rms dual voice coils. i am making an odd shaped box so i was going to plug in the volume so that it works for my shape. i can fill my whole lancer trunk doesnt matter
i could tell you to make it 6.5 sq feet, 100 sq inches of port, tune it to 45 hz and use square ports, but you need to know what kind of amp you are going run etc......Why just do a sealed? the lancers trunk really isnt that big enough for a ported box for dual 12's

sealed boxes i personally rekon are a helluva lot better then a ported.. also ported boxes tend to be bigger.. i did a comparision on 2 boxes i made for my latest clarion.. and the sealed box pissed on the ported in spl and sq.. and they were using clarion specifics..

yea. this has come up here before
basically the majority agrees that sealed straight up pwns ported/bandpass in quality and overall satisfaction.
there's gotta be recommended sizes somewhere. i can guarentee it.

the only place where you could find out the perfect size is form the manufacture/distributor in your country.. i work with household electronics and car audio equipment everyday as my job.. as a repairer, and the best way to to go with what they say usually.. as trhey have done all the research before.
It seems to me like a couple of the above people are using them little programs that supposivly tell the best box size, port, and how good and loud it will be.....All i have to say is them programs dont really work and are just a beginning to box designing. I would have to say the best way to design a box is give Audiobahn a call or search around thier website and find specs....As to ported and sealed....if you the subs to be as loud as they can, a ported is what you want, although they are bigger thier is sufficient room in a lancer trunk. Sealed boxes have always seemed to be a little less loud but sound alot better, so for Sound Quality hit up a sealed. All in all the best advice i could give you is to sell all the audiobahn stuff and get somethin new.
I don't know how speshalk thinks Audiobahn or any other manufacturer designs boxes, but it's not magic. They use a computer, with a program. The trick is to use a good program.
I've found I get the best results with WinISD. You can download it for nothing from www.linearteam.org (they designed it, they can give it away if they like)

Although WinISD will tell you a size of a box, a simple math equation will do the same...The port design on the program does that work for every car....what it says for dbs and all that is never correct, i mean if your lookin for an estimate with in 10 dbs, go right ahead.....and companys deffinatly dont use a program for subwoofers, the art in box making is try, try, and try again......Thier is no simple method you can use to get a super box......
