Engine development for the 2008 Lancer has begun.

Greetings,

WORKS has started working on the ECU Flash for the 2008 Lancer GTS (CA Model). This first iteration will start our engineering process for developing safe, reliable and consistent performance increases for the entire Lancer lineup.

Increases on previous Lancer models have shown increases in power and torque of around the 10% range, which is the low target for this new model. Of course, normally aspirated cars don’t gain as much power and torque as their forced induction counterparts, but the gains should still be noticeable, especially in conjunction with our intake and exhaust upgrades.

Watch this space for dyno charts and other 2008 Lancer developments as they happen.

Sincerely,

The WORKS Team

This is my first Mitsubishi and I am not familiar with the ECU bit. What exactly is this for and what are the benfits for this chip?
excuse my ignorance.
lol!

It's not a chip they are replacing. It's modificaiton of programming for engine parameters. The ECU is a computer that controls the engine, often the transmission, and many other components of the car. Cars these days work across a data bus (think network if you want) and the ECU controls much of everything. In GMs for instance the car's computer is so integrated that even the head unit of some cars are integrated, sometimes in multiple ways.

Dumb question - what does this do to the warranty? Is this like "immediately voids warranty" or "they'll never know!" ???

At this time, we can't comment on this issue. Once the engineers are finished with their invetigation, we will know more on the status of warranty questions. Give us a few weeks. BTW, gnnr is very much correct in his explanation of the ECU.

Sincerely,

Oliver Simons

This is great! I am hoping to see what develops in this area... I'd like to add a few horses to the car wihtout any serious mods.

Anyone have any other suggestions/recomendations?

Your average garage tech at a Mitsu dealer shouldn't be able to tell from a base system report/analysis spit out by the ECU using a reader (ODBD or what ever) unless the modifications and parameters are quite radical or if the problem he is trying to diagnose is directly related to the ECU reprogramming (flash). However, it would void your warranty on most issues you might claim considering how tightly integrated the systems are and how much they are controlled by the ECU; if he has to dig or it's obvious right off the bat I would expect the service manager to throw his hands up with a grin and tell you that you are f'ed. Of course, it will all depend on the format of the reports and the knowledge of the tech... if he doesn't know A from B because it's new or unrelated then it likely will go un-noticed.

I am under the impression that a ECU flash for a full exhaust and revamped intake (CAI, FWI, or some kind of ram hood arrangement) is all but required as the software compensates and will try to keep the car within manufacturer specs for air mix and what not. Is this true?

how do you think it will work with other companies parts as opposed to yours or would it be best to use this in conjunction with your stuff? thanks

edit: what about non CA models?

Stage I and II Complete!

The steps required to investigate and research required tools to read modern ECU's is a daunting task. However, the engineering team has completed the first two stages of what requires around ten stages, which includes testing. Our team is working hard to bring the WORKS P series flashes to the new Lancer.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Oliver Simons

I'm guessing that Works has given up (or never tried) on coming up with flashes for the 4G69 Lancer, despite what your website says?

I am new to this thing. An ECU tells your car computer that it can go faster then it's really saying, or something?
Doesn't that send the computer out of whack?

OliSim, can your guys find a workaround for the DRL/HID problems that I know a lot of us Lancer owners are concerned about? Apparently the Daytime Running Lights are controlled by the ECU. It would be nice to rerout the DRLs to the high beams so that HID can be installed safely on the lows. There are a couple of threads up right now concerning the HID problem:

It would definitely be nice to have HID that isnt ghetto rigged to the fog light switch, thats all...
