Your thermostat is located inside the neck that connects your engine to your lower radiator neck via the lower radiator hose. Follow your lower radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. The neck on the engine the hose attaches to is held on with 2 bolts. Remove those 2 bolts and the thermostat housing comes off. The thermostat is located inside. Make sure that when you install a new thermostat that the jiggle pin is on top when the new thermostat is installed.

Here's a diagram:

When replacing the thermostat, do you need any kind of RTV or sealant when you put the housing back together? I am considering a replacement, but do not know if the little rubber gasket around the new thermostat is all that is needed.

Thanks!

If you're bumping a thread that old, at least ask a question with your bump, or state why the thread needs the bumpage.

if you're looking for the answer that should have been given to paul_nickolas, the answer is no. No need for anything other than a new t-stat and gasket.

LOL maybe he just now got around to fixing it.

Since this ancient thread has been resurrected, I'll ask: has anyone found an aftermarket thermostat that fits? Every parts store thermostat i tried that is listed for this car, doesn't fit-- If I recall, the plate at the end of the spring hits the inner housing on the cylinder head side. I ended up getting one from the dealer for close to $40. Even Napa, which, around here at least, has somewhat better parts than autozone or advance auto parts, gave me the wrong one.

The autozone staff here are dumb. Look up the part online and give them the part number. I had to order mine at my local autozone. Fit with no problems. Make sure to get the gasket with it and put the pin up top.
