Should I Turbo????
I just bought an 03 lancer oz rally with 145000 miles on it and was wondering if it would be a good idea to turbo charge it or not to. if so what recomendations does anybody have for me?
In my opinion, no. If this is your daily driver, definately no. You got a decent amount of miles on that engine and I believe turbo'ing it will cause problems. It would be a good idea to freshen up the motor with a rebuild, or buy a used engine with lesser miles first. Then slap a turbo on that bad boy.
You should search and decide for yourself rather than rely on strangers to tell you what to do with your car. Anyways, here are some pros and cons
Pros
You'll gain a decent amount of power
A turbo kit is relatively cheap
Cons
With your mileage, many things can go wrong
If something goes wrong, it can get expensive fast
Fuel economy goes down

Yes it is my dayly driver. But I would like to add more zip to it if ya know what I mean. So if anybody has some ideas for some hp gain without blowing my motor or having 2 completely swap it up I'm open to sugestions. I am only running a cold air and just ordered a body kit. But I wan it to look good and run good

very reliable, great customer support but very costly but worth it.

Agreed with thunder on the cost. If I were you, I would read up and learn all you can before you turbo. You need to be very knowledgable and aware of all of this before you start or I promise you something will go wrong. As far as kits go, custom is the best and cheapest. A good place to start looking for turbo kits at a good price is the classifieds section.
I did about a year of research before I installed anything. Just read up, and get a good understanding of what you're doing and what needs to be done. I'm at high mileage but I'm trying to be safe/smart about it.

agreed with the ///rrm kit being expensive, but the knowledge and research is there.

@ josh. I did read ur post and that is waht orginally got me pumped 4 the project, but I just don't have the time with going 2 school again and workin. But I am going 2 replace the hedders and exhaust. If anybody has any other HP mods they would like to share I'm open. I will keep posting updates on what I do
Heres my view on the rrm kit. Ozboyee bought the one that came off of the yellow rrm race lancer. He paid 1800 for basically intercooler piping, a wastegate, a BOV, a DP, and an intercooler. He already had the header so I dont know if he got the turbo header with it. It came with no turbo, and no fuel management. I went online and priced out the following, injen evo intercooler piping with intake kit-$400, synchronic bov-$200, mishimoto universal intercooler-$200, a custom dp would be at most 150 from an exhaust shop. I didnt price out a wastegate cause I felt my point had been proven. Now this in no way represents the price of a custom turbo kit. I only priced out name brand items to prove my point, there are many much cheaper alternatives. Now Im not knocking on RRM, they make some badass stuff. All of my suspension has come from them and I wouldnt go to anyone else for suspension. They make the most badass strut bars and tie bars you can find. Anyways, done rambling, but you really need to do some reading, and when your done with that, you need to read some more. Do your research and do it right the first time.

lolz
with everything ill still be at around $2500.... thats really not that bad...
but my car only has 60k on it... so the engine is in better shape then the OPs...
Bolt ons you can but.
RRM has a new header with DP.. not priced bad and probably worth it. downside is it will NOT work with a turbo set up like their old one (which i have) will... But its better for NA apps since it is a 4-2-1 (imalancerman will agree since he is the one who told me) Check it out. That will most likely be your best bet. That and a CAI, would be a good start if you not gonna turbo.
Really? maybe cause you live in VA? lol
I ask them all kinds of annoying questions and when they dont email me back i just call them, and when they dont answer ill show up at their door
the thing is you spent a year gathering your stuff and all that, but if you would have went with them you would have saved all that time... thats really what its about. Time and convenience. Thats cool you did it all yourself, but look how much time it took you to do it.
You see what im getting at. How much is getting it fast and right worth? vs the time of making sure you arent going to make mistakes and build something of quality that has already been made.
see the bottom line is if you want it right and you want it NOW go with RRM, if you have a year then do it yourself, ooor find a used one and get it. all good options

I've always had terrible customer support from them, that's why I didn't go with their kit, well that and the extra $3,000 or so.
