Hey guys, I have seen OBDII cables with the usb plugs on them to connect from the car to your computer, but i cant find the one with the secondary white connector, where can i find them? Is the ECU FLASH programs and software free? where can i download them? Thanks guys

EcuFlash is open source (free) and can be downloaded from openecu.org. you need an OpenPort/Tactrix cable to be able to flash your ECU. They can be purchased from the OpenPort/Tactrix or EvoScan site as well as many other vendors.

 

Thanks for the info senate, Is there a specific name brand for this cable so i can search for them? Can i just use the cables they sell on ebay without the second connector?

Ok, i found a cable on evoscan.net http://www.limitless.co.nz/cables/ Its the fourth cable down on that page for 97$. Will that cable work? it states "Same cable as OpenPort 1.3U except it does not include EcuFlash serial license." Will that be a problem when re-flashing?

It means ecuflash will not work with it simple as that.

Ecuflash changed the way their serial keys work so duplicate cables like that could not be used. Evoscan has its own flash tool which can apparently use that cable.

I do find it somewhat cheesy tactrix decided to stop selling the old cables it was nicer getting the low priced cables that way. Eventually I bet ecuflash will require the 2.0 cable to even run but that's probably a long ways from now.

There's some old cables out there still but they'll only work on Ecuflash version up to 1.29. The newer cables with the license will work on all versions current today. I'm not sure on the cable without the license though.
