Hey guys,
there's a really good thread in this forum about "How to tune an Evo".
Unfortunately I don't own an Evo...so I'm looking for someone who helps me with the topic for an NA lancer.
What map is the best to start AFR?
When do you touch the timing and in which intersection of load and rpm should be the changes.
Also I want to know what to do with the Mivec maps...where to increase/decrease the values
I'm really interested in this topic.

The users section has everything u need. However I suggest u read up on how to tune an evo as it is the same principle. Once you know what everything is, how it functions etc. then and only then should u start tuning. I had quite a few nice pdf's to read up on the subject specially relating to the evo x (similar tuning to the regular lancer) and overall how to tune, but I forgot where they are lol. Also I can send u my tune so u can see the values im working with.

I own the EDM 1.8 which is just a reduced 2.0 one.
I have a little edited file of an tuner (the file doesn't work well atm) where I already can see changes.
But this is the first thing where I stop... he edited for example the timing and reduced the values for load from 0-100 from 500-3500 and increased the figure above 3500.
-> why?

afaik a richer mixture can take earlier timing without knock. but what is the benefit of doing this?

Yeah ive got the 2 liter. Ok im not an expert, but ill try answer a few questions.
For instance about the AFR. I am personally running 14.7 at low rpm low load to a maximum of 11.1 at high rpm high load. This is because the lower the ratio, the more oxygen is present at each cycle which equates to easier detonation and more power. The reason I can run this without any problems is I use high octane fuel with an occasional octane booster just to keep it safe. If u read the map from ur stock lancer u will see how high the values are. The lancer had a very conservative tune so it could use very poor fuel (91 ron) and in hot climates without detonating. Just by leaning out the mixture and using higher octane fuel u can see a nice power increase which is also pretty safe.
As for the timing, retarding beyond stock levels can be really bad since they usually come a little retarded as is and can cause valve and piston damage. Advancing it can also be just as bad. The point here is to find the sweet spot. Usually the best is to advance it until it starts to ping and then retard it 2 or 3 degrees for safety.

I'm running for normal on 98-100 Octane fuel.
You can buy this at almost every gas station in my country.
The point that I don't understand is:

I read that 12,5 would be best for power and
14,7 would be best for emissions
but both can not be used in high rpm/load
so it's not all about rich or lean..it also depend where yo do what.
does the timing also affect the valves so that the piston can hit the valves...or only the spark?

I've been researching this very subject for 8 months now.
So far I have learned some of:
reverse engineering the ROM
setting up a good logging system
how the various parts work at different RPM ranges
learning the math behind how engines work, airflow, pulse wave timing, and burn mechanics
measuring parts & calculating limits
ram charging
probably other things that just don't come to mind at the moment.
I still don't think I know enough to start tuning yet, but I am a lot closer than when I started out. At the least it has let me start developing theories to try out when I have all the tables accessible. I'm sure what I'm learning is probably overkill to some degree, but I'd like to design some custom parts as well.
My best suggestion is to read, a lot. Research the parts you don't understand and eventually you'll get it. I guess the other option is to go to school for it.
