Misfiring Systems

I've seen these in video clips on the internet and street-racing videos as well as clips of Rally-racers tearin' up in the dirt. It looks awesome as hell, but what exactly do they do and why?

I'd like to get one.

Remove your cats and put a spark plug or some sort of with a trigger in your muffler just before the tip.

Basically a how-to-shoot-flames out of your muffler for cheap. The sparky ignites your fumes that, without cat(s) in the way of, go boom.

However, what exactly is the benefit of this?

Hmm, so if you upgraded your exhaust piping could you run a "bang-bang" or mis-fire system without destroying the exhaust manifold?

I know you need a turbo to run this. And also, does an EGR kill the lag as well as a mis-firing system? And what about noise level, because isn't that why they got rid of mis-firing systems?

I mean exactly what I said. Removing the cats means unburnt fuel will remain and exit your exhaust. Giving it a spark sets it on fire. You're essentially building a flame thrower out of your exhaust system. Personally I think it's a bad idea, but it's not my car.

what happens if the flame goes back in the exhaust pipe and goes all the way back to the exhaust manifold...Could this create some sort of explosion?

it won't go back into the exhaust manifold unless the engine bogs out and dies while it is exploding and not giving any throttle. highly unlikely also...to get the afterburner effect you shut your car off and hold down the gas. this makes it look like a jet engine.

No Hobie, I'm asking how you can mount the spark-plug on it with a trigger. I might try it once or twice. How bad might the results be?

Cyrax, that's the idea, an explosion in the exhaust manifold to help the turbo continue spooling.

Have a bong welded on or something and screw in a spark wired to a switch. I'm not an electrical engineer, I'm just giving a very basic description of a DIY way to make your car's exhaust shoot flames. I can stress enough what a waste I think it is, but not my money, not my car, not my choice.

This is as far down the road that I can take you.

Did we just shift gears from a Anti-Lag System to a flame thrower exhaust?

ALS is great if you have an unlimited supply of turbos. Definately loud, illegal, and scare the bejeezus out of whoever is behind you in traffic.

And correct me if i'm wrong, but don't you mean put on a "bung"? when i saw "bong", i imagined my friends white and blue glass bong used sideways as the tip of my muffler. Ssssmmmokin!
