the first post stated that he was suprised to see his RPMS jump to 1000.
everyday i start my car it hisses then jumps to 2000 rpms, then the exhaust roars in my garage. if your only seeing 1000, then you got nothing to worry about.
I don't have a piggy-back

If it's cold then of course your RPMS are going to be higher while it's in the warm up period. After a few minutes it should slowly go down to about 700-800 RPM depending on if you've messed with your throttle cable. That's on a normal Lancer, not sure about one with a piggy back. I would guess that it would happen the say way though.

Your RPMs should drop a little when its warm if I remember correctly when I had mine in. I installed mine in the summer though, not in this frigid winter weather crap (I am so ready for summer again).
Whether you install the PB or disconnect the battery and reset the ECU the car should start and REV high and then settle back down to idle below 1000rpm. That's the normal way the ECU responds.
The PB takes over from there and learns what else is going on and adjusts the tune to the ECU. I installed my PB a few times and never had any trouble with bad idle. Once the PB settles in the car has a smoothness under regular driving not present when the PB was not installed.

When i installed mine the first time using the supplied clips the wires weren't getting a good connection.. i wouldn't recommend using them. I took them off and found that one of them didn't even cut through the plastic wire insulation. Has anyone had a problem with starting the car up and it dying? I have an auto.. the wires are hooked up correctly but every morning when i start up the car it usually dies unless i rev the engine up a couple of times.
Edit: Oh and the car idles rough all the time for me in drive when i'm stopped.. at stop lights i usually put it in neutral and the rough idle stops.

I just finished my install of the piggyback in my 2003 oz manual around 2:15pm today, when I reconnected the battery and started the car it did not idle up at all. when I turned the car off after driving it for about 30 minutes or so , it did not want to start back. It started on the 3rd try, and has been fine since. I can notice a torque difference and it runs for red a little quicker.we'll see how it does.
