Engine life?

If i happened to mod my car with test pipe, headers, new exhaust system, SRI, and piggy back.

will this wear out my car's engine fast? thus shortening the lifetime of my car??

even with those mods, a decent regimen of maintenance will keep your engine going for a long time

yeah, and stock engines always run like crap compared to a thoughtfully modified engine You pay to play. Besides, if he gets REALLY serious he'll be doing internals swaps and such and that pretty much resets your engine life to day 1

I dont think you have to worry about much. It's when you get in FI that puts wear on an engine. I have been running basic n/a mods and regular maintenance runs like the first time, yet my warrenty is up in 30,000 miles (like anywhere from 8-12 months) But I have been saving some cash hear and there, and I got my eye on a bored and totally rebuilt 4G94. I hate putting piece by piece together, so I am waiting it out. In a year I should be around 11 grand saved. It is a stupid choice, but I plan on dumping it all at once. (If no suprises come up in that time) I flip flop on the idea alot but noway could I afford insurance on anything else, so I'll see. I just wanna go for total sleeper. hehehe.

With those mods, your engine should just about last as long as a stock engine. The air intake, exhaust, header, and ecu aren't really killing the engine. What kills the engine is when you are running stock internals with a high-boost turbo kit, not getting oil changes, not checking fluids, no tune ups, timing belt check. I'm not totally sure about the piggyback ecu.. but I don't belive it would do much damage if you install it properly. I've seen civic's with those same mods last just as long as any other. My friend's 93 civic hatchback had over 290,000 miles on it. He had intake, header, straight thru exhaust. It started like it was brand new. All he ever did was replace the bushings, clutch, brakes, oil, spark plugs and wires. As long as you treat your car good, it will be nice back.

Well said wiretap. Besides, its not bad to hit the revlimiter every once in a while. Just dont stay up there too long!

I assure you switching to better internals and helping the engine breath better will prolong the life of any vehicle. Especially with proper engine management.

Stock N/A compacts will never have forged internals or titanium rods. They are seldom professionally balanced. They burn rich from the factory which hurts gas mileage and clogs valves more quickly. Properly tuned engines will (for the most part) last longer.

However, most people don't properly tune ****. Therefore, I can see why one would make such a statement.
