Mirage Header and Downpipe
oz4g94 - we appreciate that you're trying. But sometimes you have to be patient. I didn't start telling people anything until I'd been on EvoM over a year - because by then, I was sure I knew my answers were true. Not saying that you shouldn't help out, but sometimes you just have to be 100% sure about what you're saying.
wow the experts are coming in and giving some 411.. i always liked the rpw header but its so expensive thats why im looking for some alternatives but the posts ive read from you guys it seems that the rpw header is the winner in this case

not a waste of money per say. gains were good and it was a decent mod. i'm just saying that i saved up like 250 or whatever it cost, and i wished i had saved up another 250 for the rpw, instead of using the kami for a year, then buying the rpw anyway
thats why its so imperative to have a plan and stick to it. ie, if you know your going rrm turbo later on, then get their header. if you know your going with rpw's turbo kit, then perhaps don't get any header cause they use a turbo manifold. supercharger, like i said, rpw's header would be best

Na I'm not going to turbo it or anything, not this time around anyway, maybe next Lancer in a few years. Anyway, what type of approximate gains did you get with the kamakazi header/downpipe?
all that tell me that im wrong: i know that the rpw headers give the most gains, i looked into them before i became a member, i had read several threads about the three different headers before making my decision. but where all of you are wrong is telling me they are completely worth the money, it is all opinionated. i do not believe that spending $500+ for greater gains is worth double the price i paid for mine.
Yes, that is your opinion. But you tell everyone they're not worth the money as if it's fact.
As I've learned over the past week or so, you enjoy preaching your opinion as fact when you make "suggestions" in people's threads.
You give the attitude that you are a Lancer guru and know what's best. A lot of your posts are guesses or translations of things you read. I don't post about something unless I know for sure and have used the part, or at least done plenty of research.

I have been using a mirage header from Alphawerks for two years now with no problems. I heated the bottom to give about 3/4" clearance to the oil pan. Works great and looks good too.

Here's my 2 cents on the RPW. I have had mine installed for several months now and have had no CEL. As GreenPsycho said it's all about where the O2 sensor is - mine is on a single pipe near the top of the header and it has not given me any problems. Also, for the $$$, it's worth it. I can feel the power gains in torque most definitely and have actually improved my gas mileage. I'm pretty heavy-footed in my driving and was getting about 25 mpg on the freeway before. I have consistently, over the space of months now, gotten 30 mpg or better. At the price of gas right now the header will pay for itself in less than a year!
