WTF??!?! Stupid Techs!

So yeah on April 10th, I needed my tires changed, they were the factory ones that came with the car, so I bought the tires and took them to walmart because I was shopping and ask if they could put them on, they did, and while doing that I asked why not change the oil while you all are at it too, so they did... or so I thought... Well the lil sticker said change again at 72000 miles, well my car is now at 83000 and I decided WELL I better go and get it changed...
and guess what I find out!!!!!!! I wonder whats taking them so long, so I walk out there and they are like escorting me out to my car, which is sitting over the bay looking like its been through surgery, and everyone is standing over it shaking their heads. So as I'm being escorted to my hood, I'm being told that I'm going to have to sign a waiver form. I'm like uhh okay?? why? Well he was like well Sir, we pulled your dipstick, and its bone dry. I stop midstep and I'm like theres no f*cking way. I was like well I brought here before and you all changed it, so if there is none in it its because you all forgot to put it back in. He asked well have you noticed any spots from parking I was like no, he was like no oil spots, I was like no. he was like well you don't have any blow by, and from what we can see there are no cracks in the bottom of the engine, we can't explain why your car just ran 10,000 miles on no oil... And so I'm standing in aww and disbelief, thinking on how hard I drive and push my car to its limits, and I'm just like and it all the times it could've shot a rod... wow... someone was really looking out for me upstairs... So I asked, did you pull the plug? he was like yes, and I was like and??? he was like look for yourself, he showed me the oil trap and there was nothing in it, but a oil filter, he was like and that is yours, he showed it to me and it was a little black but almost new looking... except the gasket and top part looked used... so we pulled the cap on top of the heads, and I peered in, asking Well why didn't it blow?? he was like I dunno... so yeah I'm left to believe that mistu has one bad *** motor or something, I was asking another friend, and she took it to same place and they did the same thing Mistu and all, except only 20,000 miles on no oil....

So my question is this, why didn't it throw a rod or something? and now it runs so smooth its not funny :P I dunno but yeah my car is a little champ

wait a minute? didnt u get a low oil light???

and second, why the **** would you let an oil change go 10000 miles, lol, i never push it past 3500 miles, and i check the oil regularly, our cars use a lot of oil u know.

i never heard of a car going that long or any amount of time with that little or no oil, it just isnt gonna happen, are u sure another tech didnt drain it and then they checked it??

it is possible though that after 10000 miles u could loose most of your oil, DAM i forgot to ask, what kinda oil filter are u using, it must be pretty high tech, I HOPE!!

I don't see how they could have explained your car had gone 10,000 miles between oil changes with even the right amount.

even if its not true, thats why you don't hire rednecks with only a preschool diploma (ie the people that work at wal mart) to work on your car.

Actually the story is quite believeable, because something similar happened to me. I wont go into the details of my stupidity, but essentially, I had NO oil in my car, it didnt seize, it didnt spin a rod or anything. I did chafe my bearings pretty bad , but all that time the oil light did not come on at all. Our cars' warning systems are junk. My advice to anyone, regardless of if you change your oil every 10 miles or every 10 million miles, EVERY TIME you fill up, check your oil. It takes about 15 seconds to do and it could mean the difference between something like this and disaster.

For the original poster, it runs smoother now because there is oil. I would still change my oil at around the 500 mile mark again, and check the oil pan for any metal shavings. And hopefully this will spur some of the people who take their cars in to "mechanics" to do oil changes and crap like that on their own. If you want a job done RIGHT, do it yourself (coming from a guy that literally looked back on receipts from mechanics and nearly cried).

AirQuez, and to everyone who posted in this thread, the oil light never came on, didn't even blink. I plan on changing it here pretty quick as it is. just to see if there are metal shavings on the oil pan, (will it come out with the oil that drains?) and if there are what happens then what do I do?. As for Walmart, well lets just say if the car is broke, I'm getting a new car and they're going to be the ones buying it. And I just may get a evo :P. none the less I was shocked, all I could think was there is no possible way this could've happened. The only thing that I could think of that saved me is the fact that when i lived in Georgia, I was going on a road trip, so I went to this mechcanic store in the middle of BFE, this old guy that seemed like 86 years old helped me out, I asked him I was like look I am fixing to go on a road trip of a bout 800 miles, straight, I need to change my oil before I go, can you help? he was like get the thick stuff, I forgot the grade but I want to say 15-20, but none the less I figured that it was still in the system from when the people at walmart changed it. As for oil filters the one that I seen in the oil pan was the FRAM one as far as I know they are pretty basic?? nothing speical about those. You all who want to take the cheap way out just becareful, there are some people who really shouldn't be under the hood of these cars. As for checking my oil, my dad who owns J&E Imports (Japanese and European Imports) say to check my oil everytime I fill up at the gas station. Well I was like dad I've never done that before, hell I just pull up get out put my card in and fill it up and go. never once turning the car off. So yeah I will take time to look now. With this happening the way it did I'm curious to know where should I go to get my transmission flushed??

I guess with my lifestyle I dont have much time to much of anything. I drive 50 miles to school at 9 am, and from there I'm in school til 3 to 4:30 MTWTTHF and after school on T TH F S S I'm working as a bartender, about 35 miles from school, and I get off from their from anywhere to 11 at night to 3 at night, and on my off days I usually stay home and work on homework or sleep... so go figure?? but no oil light Oil filter the orange FRAM as for the other tech draining, lets just say I hope so... they all seemed pretty clueless as it was. I don't know if we have any waiters or servers here, but the techs all seemed really in the weeds when I was there so it could've been drained... just no one seen it, but how do you explain the dry oil filter?
