Porting explination

I am porting out a head right now and was wondering why you need a rough to touch finish on the intake side? The only reason I can think of is to mix the air and fuel better which I'm pretty sure is the reason. Would it be benificial to grind small valleys into the port making a swirl type angle into the head towards the combustion chamber. I just want to experiment a little but get some advise first.

That is the exact reason why you leave it rough.

That can end up being an expensive "experiment", its pretty easy to actually lose air flow while porting. make sure you know what you are doing.

Yea....I read up on alot of that. I'm only porting a little out so I dont lose velosity. I'm mostly going to polish it. Thanks though
