Add a header and full exhaust plus an ECU reflash and it will make a very noticeable improvement in performance. If you wanted to you could even do the stock cam that's in the 4G93, it has a 248/248 duration instead of 240/248 that the 4G94 comes with. Or if you really want to get crazy with it then do the 4G92 MIVEC head swap that has been ported add a decompression gasket and a turbo and you have a 2.0L MIVEC Turbo lancer. Can you say EVO Jr? Any way you go though you can get a decent amount of extra power out of the motor without putting a major dent in your pocketbook.

so much INFO!!!

But a little bit confused??? Did you guys put 4g94 engine (block, head) into your mirage or just the head? Also is it really possible to swap 4g92? into 4g94? And once again only head or the whole block with the head? And what year a model of mitsu is it?

We swapped a 4G94 complete OZ motor and ECU into his 99 mirage DE. His Mirage was a 4G15 which is not the same block or head type as the 4G9x series. It is however the same bolt pattern for the tranny and the dimensions are similar. Any 4G9x series head will fit the 4G94. The 4G92 MIVEC head swap onto a 4G94 is what you would want to do. You gain the displacement of the Lancer motor with the cylinder head breathing characterisitcs of the 1.6L MIVEC motor.

That's like a totally new level for US Lancers. We got high compression, we got turbo, sds, and now mivec swap. Just need more info where to get the motor and what would be needed.

Wouldn't the fueling be all wrong with the extra displacement and power output?

An ecu reflash or a standalone would be the preferred method of fixing the fuel delivery problem. A piggyback would work also if you had to.

I think a good standalone would be the best way. Then you get the fueling sorted, maximum performance benefits, and the good ones will let you control the MIVEC system too. It might be hard to get a reflash for the ECU from the MIVEC engine since I don't think it was sold in the US?

As a Mirager who has searched for this for many years, finding one is like finding the Holy Grail. Very popular in Ireland in their later model Mirages, Cyborg ZRs, Proton Satrias etc etc, and common in Malaysia and Taiwan (sometime labelled a Virage). You can also find some of them in the Caribbean islands (attached is a pic from one car back home). But to find one and get it over here will be tough.
