4g63 Head on the Lancer OZ??

I Posted this on SCLC, but why not post it on here... read on.

Alright, so our 4g94s arent the strongest engines, ****ty, i know, i wish we could just do a full 4g63t swap and make it work making it a supper sleeper.., but from my previous searches ive read it's "impossible", and they all say the same, its better off sellin the oz and buying an evo yada yada yada. I found a forum about a guy sayin that it might be possible to fit the 4g63 head on the 4g94... this is what the guy posted..... "I found a complete one in a scrap yard that i'm going to rebuild. if you want one with 30,000 miles on it, you can get it from Japan for about $2500.00 to $3000.00 depending on shipping etc. Go to a salvage yard or engine shop, have them search for wrecked eclipses or talons or galants, the motor was in most of these. The other thing, the motor in the Oz rally ed. could very well be the 4g63 with out the DOHC head and stuff, doing research as we speak. The engine in the Oz rally ed. has the same stroke, bore etc. as the 4g63 i think, all the charts are hard to read, but I think that is what they are saying. so if a 4g63 head fits on the engine in the oz rally ed. the look out, because the super beast is here..... what do you think.... full of s*@t or does it make sense?

Just curious fellas, dont roast the confused, im tryna learn here lol

There is a shop in Northern VA that is researching this right now but I will tell you even if they could fab up a miracle it would cost about the same as running a full swap because you would be required to go with a standalone ECU among countless other things.

Why it won't work.

The 4G63 head physically won't bolt on to a 4G94. Even if it would the only head you could use would be off of an EVO as it is the only one with the proper orientation. The old eclipse motors sit in the engine bay facing the opposite direction. This being said, the head swap you would want to do would be from a 1.6L MIVEC motor. It would raise compression slightly and if you port the head and the intake manifold it would make for one extremely free revving torque monster of a G94. Keep in mind this would require modification to the engine harness would also require the ECU for the 4G92 MIVEC.

As for an EVO motor in a Lancer, this is very possible. I personally haven't done it but you can take the bellhousing from the G63 and mate it to your tranny. This would remedy the starter situation and allow the motor to mount to your tranny. You would probably want to use an 2G eclipse turbo ECU as this would relieve the need to integrate a new key cylinder for the Immobilizer system. It would reqiure butchering a couple engine harnesses and a lot of ingenuity but the swap can be done.

bullsh1t head package is more like it. They NEVER produced a single dyno sheet from a "customer" car, and the only people who'd "used the product" sounded exactly the same as the website. The one guy who claimed to have it on his lancer "lost" the "dyno sheet" and never bothered to even post a drag time slip or anything that might indicate that this product actually improved performance. It may be a fantastic product, but it's their word against a lot of people's wallets- they need to come with a little more than "because we said so".

jdjd's on his way to being a guru dropping knowledge bombs like that

Are you talking about Speed Factor in Arizona? Kind of a very sketchy company and businessman, so caveat emptor.

Nonetheless, as echoed by many people in here, IT WILL NOT FIT. There is no fathomable way the head of a 4G63 will fit on a 4G9x. Have you all looked at the mounting points on the heads to the blocks? The alignment issues? It simply wont fit.

If you want a better flowing head then port it!

Seriously, for about thirty dollars and some time researching techniques you could port it yourself. Seth and I ported his head ourselves before we swapped motors and his motor is pulling strongest right before he hits the rev limiter. For those of you who don't know, Seth and I swapped a 4G94 into his 1.5L mirage. You also want to open the intake runners up to match the ports in the head when you're done with them. Add a header and full exhaust plus an ECU reflash and it will make a very noticeable improvement in performance. If you wanted to you could even do the stock cam that's in the 4G93, it has a 248/248 duration instead of 240/248 that the 4G94 comes with. Or if you really want to get crazy with it then do the 4G92 MIVEC head swap that has been ported add a decompression gasket and a turbo and you have a 2.0L MIVEC Turbo lancer. Can you say EVO Jr? Any way you go though you can get a decent amount of extra power out of the motor without putting a major dent in your pocketbook.
