maybe valve problems???

ok i'm usually not good ..decyphering sounds that my engine makes but i noticed... when i'm like in the lower rpm's and i accelerate at a medium to high pace...i hear like some ..not tapping noises..but sounds like tapping noises.i THINK it's my valves working...i'm not sure....kinda sounds like valves but they're loud...i can hear it over my radio at medium volume..and wondering if something is going wrong with my valves or is it normal????? my car still runs good..actually below 3,000 rpms...the engine stutters just a little bit but once it starts at the powerband it's all gravy... is something going bad on my car..it only has 18000 miles on it.. i'm curious

Have you checked the oil? Maybe you are low on oil, try using a different gas next fill u p too. Might not be anything serious.

how bad is the studdering? can you explain it in more detail...get some injector cleaner, new oil, and a tank of gas from a differet distributer and see if that helps...also check your plugs, wires, and coil packs for obvious wear and tear....insufficent spark could cause problems.

Check your plugs, maybe you are misfiring. Check the gap, the white, bottom portion of the plug, and see if there are any marks on the plugs.

Best, just post pics of each one of the four plugs.

i've been trying to fix my misfire for about a month now! i has a lean misfire that only happened in powerband and i found out the o-ring on the high pressure fuel line was blowing fuel out into a puddle at the base of my IM. then i changed my plugs (which had 2k miles on them and they burnt completely out) and wires...now i have corrected the high end misfire and the car studders and misfires between 1300-2800rpm's!!! i believe my coil pack went bad now too. i pulled it out and it was coated in a nasty, brown, powdery substance..... i'm trying get off of this road to recovery and get back to the track and run some numbers.

Wow, sounds much worst than what my car was doing. Anything over 3.5k rpm and it would misfire like crazy, causing lean condition.

I bought new wires, new plugs, new boots that connect the coils to the plugs, and it worked.

Dick- that's the lifters at work. Nothing you can do about it and I think it was the first thread discussed when EvoM went online Actually, you CAN take apart your head, bleed the lift adjusters, reinstall them and see if they'll fill with oil a little more evenly. OR you can get the lifters with solid "adjusters" from a G93 engine- they won't click. Eitehr option is going to cost at least a grand to fix something that's not broken. Otherwise don't worry about it

Alchemist is right. Hmmmm 4G93 solid lifters in our head ....... never thought of that.

As far as I remember each lifter/valve lash adjuster is about $10 and you got 16 of them and some work to it.

Use some Valve Medic by Gunk once in a while and it shouldn't tick that much.
