adjusting idle

Is it possible to change the rpm your car idles at?My car is idleing at about 800 or 900 rpm and it vibrates alot. When i slightly depress the gas and hold it at 1000rpm it smoothes out tramendously. I was wondering if there was a way I can correct this and how.

On the throttle body there is a screw that you can adjust. It's located right on the top and it has a rubber plug in it. Take off the plug and turn the screw. You would probably have to turn it at least 4 times to add 300rpm at idle. DO NOT raise your idle more than 900rpm!!! Unless you don't mind "check enigne light".

You can adjust it, but I wouldn't screw with it. The proper way to adjust it is with the MB991502 Scan tool(MUT-II) with all accessories in the car turned off. The scan tool gets an accurate idle speed reading and also is used to hold the IAC(idle air control) motor at the basic step, which is where it has to be to properly adjust the idle speed using the screw on the throttle body. According to the shop service manual the idle speed on the scan tool should read 700 +/- 50 r/min.
